What is your name and role within the band?
A: “My names Sahvannes, and it’s just Sahvannes, no band.”
How did you start?
A: “I started making music my junior year of high school, music was the only thing that ever spoke to me the way it did so one day I decided to buy a $60 microphone and start recording myself and making tracks. A couple months after I started I had an epiphany during a shroom trip and something told me I was going to be a musician some day. It wasn’t something like “you’re going to be the greatest” it was just like, “this is you, this is what you’re going to be”.”
Where are you based?
A: “I’m based out of Kansas City, Missouri. Me and my management and a couple other artist are planning on moving to the west coast in a couple weeks though. ”
Please give an example of your music writing process?
A: “Most of the time I listen to a beat and just vibe out while doing whatever. I always find myself writing while I’m driving though, thoughts just flow more natural like that. I’ll hum out a flow or melody and then place words within them.”
What are you working on right now?
A: “Right now I’m working on a project, I haven’t really decided on a title just yet. I’ll have a single and a video out before that drops though and should have a name for it by then.”
What is your gear setup?
A: “Just a microphone & a DJ mane ”
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
A: “All I do is work and make music, I started boxing for a brief period of time but it was always separate from the music. Any extra curriculars are all in my bars , from the things I do when I’m alone , with a woman, or with the homies.”
How would you describe your music genre?
A: “I used to describe my music as experimental hip hop, like back when I released Jean Michel and all that. But I’m not sure anymore, my music had gotten even more personal. I just talk about my life now, and my frustrations. I definitely still experiment with sound though, and try to make sounds I think about come to life in the music. ”
Do you know any music theory?
A: “Negative ”
What are your plans for the future?
A: “To leave the city, drop my single, and then drop my project. I’m expecting a lot from it. I know you shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket. But I really feel like this will be it for me. I want to eventually win Grammys but that’s not my focus right now. I just want to make honest music and profit from it so I can change my situations along with my family’s.”
How did you get into music?
A: “I’ve always been around music, my dad used to rap and my brothers all had instruments. I used to enjoy watching my older siblings on their drums and xylophones but when it was time for me to get into all that they had gotten tired of paying for stuff that they didn’t think I’d used in the future so I lucked out on that. I used to listens to my older brothers CD players and MP3s all the time too and I loved rap. I loved listening to shit I knew my parents wouldn’t want me listening to, it gave me a rush. ”
What are you listening to at the moment?
A: “Sza, Kendrick Lamar, Mac Dre, PAC, YG, Retch, Da$h, and Travis Scott. Always in rotation, especially PAC, Retch, and Da$h. ”
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
A: “I’d say PAC, Kendrick, Gorillaz, Da$h, Jean Michel Basquiat, and I’m sure I’m missing a lot more.”
When are you playing next?
A: “Who knows, but I’m gonna rock that shit.”
