How did you start?
I learned guitar from a friend when I was in the 7th grade. It wasn’t until high school though that I began playing seriously and writing my first songs. I’ve been at it ever since.
Where are you based?
I am currently splitting my time between Charlottesville, Virginia (where I am from) and Nashville, Tennessee.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
I try and create every day. When I am feeling particularly inspired I grab my guitar and go to work. I’ll sit down and play and just sort of hum nonsense to develop a melody. I do that over and over and eventually form something that makes sense.
What are you working on right now?
At the moment I am finishing up work on my third LP. This one has been a true labor of love but I am really pleased with the way it’s coming together.
What is your gear setup?
I play a blueridge acoustic guitar. It was a gift from my mother and I’ve had it for 6 years.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
Music of course is a huge part of my life but many other things bring me joy. I have been painting quite a bit recently and I have always loved to cook. I’ve found that when I’m not feeling creative with music it really helps to step away and do something else. I love spending time with my friends and family too!
How would you describe your music genre?
I consider myself a singer/songwriter with an Americana vibe.
Do you know any music theory?
I don’t know any music theory and that’s ok with me.
What are your plans for the future?
My plan at the moment is to finish and release my album.
How did you get into music?
I got into music the same way a lot of kids do I suppose. My mom bought me a guitar and my friends who already had been playing for a while were able to help me get the hang of it. From there I started singing and writing.
What are you listening to at the moment?
I’ve really been into a band called Hiss Golden Messenger. They have a fantastic new record out called “Heart like a Levee”.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
James Taylor, Mavis Staples, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson
When are you playing next?
I’m playing a show in my hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia on June 23rd.
