What is your name and role within Bad Cop / Bad Cop?
Linh Le – Bass Player and vocalist.
How did you start?
The band started originally when Myra discovered Stacey and Lil Jen (the original bassist for Bad Cop Bad Cop) playing a show in San Francisco. She had found out that they lived in the LA area and wanted to jam with them so they made plans to get together and get something going. Lil Jen ended up bringing along Jennie to the first practice and then BOOM there were like 4-5 songs written. Unfortunately, as the momentum started to push for the band, Lil Jen was not able to commit to it, so she referred me (Linh) to take her place and that started the 3 part harmonies. hooray!
Where are you based?
We are based in San Pedro, CA, because that’s where we all meet up. Myra lives in San Pedro, but Jennie resides in Huntington Beach and Stacey and I live in Long Beach.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
Well, our new album “Warriors” took a relatively unusual process for us.We were all kind of pulled individually with our recording engineer/producer Davey Warsop to write the songs for this album. Nornally, one of us (either Jennie, Stacey or myself) will have an idea and then we all come together to finish the song.
What are you working on right now?
Well, we are just about to release our newest full length on Fat Wreck Chords on June 16, 2017 called “Warriors” (GET IT!) So , we shall see how well that does.
What is your gear setup?
I just recently received a Reverend Dub King semi hollow body bass from Reverend Guitars (Thanks Ken!)and use Gallien Krueger 1001 RB-II 700/50W Bass Amp Head with a Gallien Krueger CX410 800W 8ohm 4×10 bass cab. Jennie also received a Jet Stream guitar from Reverend guitars and she plays out of Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Combo amp. Stacey received Double Agent OG also from Reverend Guitars and plays out of Peavey 5150, Marshall JCM 900 or 2000 Amp with a Straight 4×10 Cabinet and Myra plays out of a 4 piece SJC kit with TRX cymbals.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
I like to travel, which I get to do while on tour, but I would enjoy it more if my dude were here <3 Someday I’ll be able afford to tag him a long (I hope 😛 )
How would you describe your music genre?
We’re a four piece punk band with 3 part harmonies and some poppy ass hooks.
Do you know any music theory?
I took music theory class when I was in college, but I don’t know if I remember any of it haha.
What are your plans for the future?
Well, keep on doing this until I can call this my actual career. (I work in Accounting to make ends meet for now….gripping stuff with them spreadsheets)
How did you get into music?
Well, I’ve also had a strong interest in music. Anything audibly captivating will get me stimulated. I always participated in my school’s concert choir but it wasn’t until I was 15 where I actually picked up a guitar and started playing. I quickly realized I was terrible at chords, but can learn bass lines pretty easily.
What are you listening to at the moment?
My favorite album of 2016 which is “Old Fires, New Frontier” by Caskitt. If you haven’t heard them, I highly recommend them.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
I don’t have a specific order but I would say:
-Tom Waits
– Motorhead
– Clutch
– Tia Carrere
– Face to Face
When are you playing next?
Tomorrow (6-16-2017) at the Centurylink Field North Lot in Seattle and the Vans Warped Tour in its ENTIRETY!!!!
