What is your name and role within the band?
I’m Andrew and I play Keys.
How did you start?
We all attended the same university in Stillwater, Oklahoma and came together through random happenstance. Initially I just recorded a demo for the band (3 piece at that time) and added keys to the recordings. I kind of weaseled my way into the band I feel like sometimes.
Where are you based?
Though we started in Stillwater, OK, we all live down the road an hour or so in Tulsa, OK.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
The guitarist/singer Colton, or myself will usually come up with a rough song idea.
We’ve had success recently with taking the bank of song ideas and renting a cabin in the woods for a week or so a few times a year, and working them out together collaboratively. No distractions, lots of inspiration.
What are you working on right now?
We’re almost done with a new EP that’s been in the works for a long time, but it’s my favorite group of songs and recordings we’ve ever done.
What is your gear setup?
We have
Colton – Guitar/Vocals
Andrew – Keys
Cory – Drums
Brett – Bass.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
I think we all have a wide range of interests.
Colton is a teacher through Americorps, and Brett is in nursing school, Cory likes science and space stuff, and I’m a craft beer nerd.
How would you describe your music genre?
It’s always hard to describe it yourself. Indie-rock? I guess? We’ve also heard the term “Sex-wave” thrown around.
Do you know any music theory?
Yeah I’ll bust out some 12 tone matrices for whatever Schoenberg you wanna throw at me.
What are your plans for the future?
We love what we’re doing now. I think we’d all like to keep doing it, but bigger and better.
How did you get into music?
My parents made me take piano lessons when I was 6.
What are you listening to at the moment?
I like Grizzly Bear’s new single, also Spoons newest record. Getting into Tame Impala’s record Currents from 2015 for like the 4th time now. When we’re in the van more I’m more up to date as to what the rest of the dudes are into.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
Hmm.
Radiohead
The Verve
Interpol
Doves
War On Drugs
Are bands that I know we all agree on, but I’m sure there are would be more or less contention with the hierarchy.
When are you playing next?
We’re playing locally a few times before we have the record ready to go, then we’ll be all over again. We can’t wait!
Please feel free to include any extra info.
