Hi Faith, Welcome to The Partae! How are you?
Thank you. Firstly, I hope that you and your staff are doing well in these difficult times. I am doing well now and hoping for the best.
Could you please tell us a bit about your journey into DJing and producing? And which of the two skills came first to you?
I started Djing with my cousins during my college years. We were playing at parties together and I was having a really good time and experience. During this moment I felt different, and music was playing an important role in my life. I was interested in doing production, but I couldn’t back in these days because of my education. I always wanted to start creating my sounds but due to the lack of resources, I couldn’t start earlier. After I graduated from University I started to produce.
Is there one moment that made you realize this is what you wanted to dedicate your life to?
After I graduated from the university I started to work in several companies. I then decided that corporate life was not for me. I left everything behind and went to America to spend some quality time on my own and build my future. I was alone and this was the best decision of my life because when I came back to Turkey, I was thinking about nothing but music. I only wanted to create, to work, to listen, and be part of this industry. Music was the only and best way to express my own and I wanted to share these feelings.
In your opinion what is it about electronic music that has such a strong allure to so many people?
In my point of view, electronic music is the sounds of people’s dark and empty minds with the fusion of these people’s feelings and thoughts coming from a different dimension.
What would you like to see change about the industry?
In my point of view, the music business in Turkey is a little mainstream. I would like to play my sound in underground places and share my feeling with the people that love these sounds. I dream of a turkey that your social media account, your profile, and your fame are not key for your artist profile.
Can you tell us a bit about your new EP on Follow The Fingers? How did you link with that label, and what were the influences behind the record?
Thousand fingers are the owner of Follow the fingers is a friend and I was talking with him during these hard times. I always wanted to release an ep from his label. I knew that he was loving these different sounds and vocals that I made for these songs and sent him the tracks. He quickly replied to me telling me that these tracks are great for his label.
What was your studio set up like?
I have different synths like Arturia microbreak, Minimoog, Korg monologue/Minilogue, Waldorf Blofeld, and Arturia key step. I also use some analog effect pedals. Nevertheless, I also use many plug-ins like Serum, Arturia, Soundtoys and U-he, and many more.
Do you think your sound has changed/developed over the pandemic with the lack of crowd interactions?
Yes, of course, I think that my sound has changed like many artists. My music was always composed with melancholic and dramatic sounds. During the quarantine I was alone, and this was reflected in my music. On the other hand, I watch many different videos, listen to different music to improve my vision.
What are your favorite records to open and close a set with?
I like to play unknown tracks on my sets. My intros are variable depending on my mood but generally, I use atmospheric sounds. On the other hand, I love to play Dj Koze, Robag Wruhme, and Micheal Meyer’s tracks for the outros of my sets.
What else have you got coming up that you can tell us about and what are your goals for the future?
I am happy with my current situation. I am at the studio every day and we are happy as a little family which consists of wonderful friendships. In the future, I dream to have my sound I want to have an audience that is only there to listen and dance to my sounds. This process needs time but is worth waiting for. I want to make unique projects and make my audience feel different when I play I hope that I can achieve that. I also want to work with a different artist who is currently a secretJ. My life goal is to produce and produce till the last day of my life.
