“Glory Days is my first music video ever, and the most important thing I wanted to push in the video was the presence of Asian artists, dancers, musicians and tastemakers. There aren’t a lot of videos like this, with an all-Asian cast, outside the K-pop and J-pop world. As an Asian artist, I feel like I have a responsibility to represent the community however I can. “ – Sweater Beats
“I loved collaborating with Sweater Beats on ‘Glory Days.’ It’s an upbeat, carefree song that gets me hyped every single time I hear it. And it’s not often two Asian Americans get to represent in pop music so that makes it all the more meaningful!” – Hayley Kiyoko
Sweater Beats sets the scene in a Los Angeles karaoke bar, delivering his best performance of Weezer’s ‘Sweater Song’, at the top of his official music video for new single ‘Glory Days’; with guest appearances from a bevy of other Asian-American influencers including: Far East Movment; producer/DJ/agency, The Kinjaz; professional dance group, Ryan Feng; of The Quest Dance Crew, Starro; Grammy nominated producer/multi-instrumental/DJ,Dumfoundead; rapper/producer, Lydia Paek; singer/dancer, Ellen Kim; choreographer/dancer/actress, and Kimi Singer; actress/model starring as ‘Karaoke Girl’ in the video – to name a few. The Philippines-born, Maryland-bred producer/musician Sweater Beats joined forces earlier this month with rising singer/songwriter/director Hayley Kiyoko to release ‘Glory Days’, the final track off Sweater Beats ‘For The Cold’EP, available through Big Beat Records. The single delights listeners and viewers with his forward thinking electronic production techniques, and infectious melodies, which are carried away by label-mate Hayley Kiyoko’s powerful vocals. Complex praised ‘Glory Days’ as “arguably one of the biggest of his career…an uplifting performance that plays up a theme of worrying less about making a mistake and doing more to make life fulfilling”!
“Live your life confidently no matter what you do, who you are, and what the industry standards tell you. Whether you want to sing, act, dance, make music, or direct movies just go for it because your glory days are right around the corner.” – Asian-American director, Brad Wong
“Weezer is one of my all time favorite bands. I learned how to play guitar covering their songs, and on my last headline tour I ended every set with the “Sweater Song” (of course). It’s one of the coolest things ever that Weezer let me use the song in the “Glory Days” music vid. I want to thank them for shaping my teenage years and for letting me butcher that song in my first ever music video” – Sweater Beats
More on Sweater Beats:
Sweater Beats caught the attention of a wide variety of tastemakers with support on his past releases “Better” ft. Nicole Millar and “Did You Wrong” ft. MAX. Embraced early on by the underground music community supported widely across Soundcloud’s streaming platform, the producer became well known by those that carefully followed the rise of future bass; alongside artist support from Diplo, Omarion, and JoJo; plus tour opportunities with Chance the Rapper, Flume, Chet Faker and most recently gnash (whom Sweater Beats supported on ‘The Sleepover Tour’) as well as ‘Glory Days’ vocalist Hayley Kiyoko (the Rolling Stone deemed ‘Artist You Need To Know’ who recently completed her nationwide “One Bad Night Tour,” and made waves with latest single “Sleepover.”)
