Whet your appetite! With over 30 international and local artists on the line-up, Sugar Mountain will be the hottest party in Melbourne next week. With just 10 days to kick-off, it’s time to reveal the festival’s top-notch food and drink offerings for 2018 – including the debut appearance of one of Melbourne’s most iconic food destinations. Read on…
‘Welcome To Sugar Mountain’ – A collaboration between Absolut, Jameson and Welcome to Thornbury
They reinvigorated High Street back in 2015 and now the masterminds behind Welcome to Thornbury have teamed up with Absolut Vodka and Jameson Irish Whiskey to create ‘Welcome To Sugar Mountain’ – your delicious, must-stop food and cocktail hub. Featuring Absolut and Jameson cocktail caravans and eight enticing vendors (see more on those below), the WTT team brings their unique design and culinary talents to the site. Expect delectable food-truck offerings with a bespoke cocktail experience, which will take care of all things brunch, lunch and after-dark.

Says founder Daragh Kan: “I’ve been going to Sugar Mountain as a punter for years, so it’s super exciting to get involved on the food side. We’ve worked with some of our regular trucks from Welcome To Thornbury, such as Sparrows Philly Cheesesteaks, Pasta Face and of course Mr Burger, as well as Absolut, Jameson and Dave Kerr from Tender to put together the perfect food truck and cocktail lineup for partying in the sun.”

Licensed for 700+ people and a true an icon of the North, Welcome To Thornbury boasts Melbourne’s biggest menu, featuring a rotating calendar of more than 100 food outlets with a different five every night of the week. We’re thrilled to have them join Sugar Mountain in 2018!

Trash Tiki

London-born cocktail aficionados Trash Tiki aren’t typical bartenders. Kelsey Ramage and Iain Griffiths are punk loving, plastic-hating champions – and will unveil their first ever Melbourne pop-up at Sugar Mountain featuring the likes of the ‘Absolut Disco Cosmo’ and the ‘Jameson Baller Buck Chuck’. Trash Tiki is an online platform and a world touring, anti-waste drinks pop-up, the sustainable duo utilising organic food waste from local restaurants, cafes and bars (after they’ve arrived in each new city). Check out their chat with Uproxx here.

New Artists Added + Estrella Damm Beer Garden

Estrella Damm, the beer from the iconic cultural city of Barcelona, is adding two new acts/artists to this year’s line-up, whose talents will be on display at the Estrella Damm Beer Garden. Catch Melbourne producer DJ Prequel spinning four sets of funk, future R&B and bass between 1pm-9pm. Check out his latest release, ‘Freedom/Lefty’, to get the vibe.

Joining DJ Prequel will be acclaimed Adelaide visual artist and painter Billie Justice Thomson, who has been commissioned by everyone from Qantas to Harpers Bazaar in amongst multiple exhibitions. Billie will be creating an interactive ‘Paint By Numbers’ scene that festivalgoers can take part in: think kitsch, nostalgia and iconic food imagery. Check it all out in the Estrella Beer Garden, where you can also enjoy a delicious Estrella Damm on tap.

Natty Bar

Natural wine is the hottest thing in drinking circles right now: barely there human intervention, a product free of sulphur and pesticides. Sugar Mountain introduces our first ever Natty Wine Bar! Campbell Burton (2014 GT sommelier of the year, Campbell Burton Wines) and Gus Carmichael (Otis ArmadaThe Moon) are the duo behind Soulfor Wine, and now they’ll be serving up a medley of pink, white and orange goodness at Sugar Mountain.

CTRL + ALT—a transcendent oasis amidst the festival bustle, brought to you by VICE and ALT.

CTRL + ALT celebrates the launch of a new range of soft drink done differently, naturally sweetened with only 2.4% sugar. ALT will be encouraging Sugar Mountain attendees to‘Keep Doing You’ through an immersive, personalised experience.

In the ACCA forecourt, festival-goers will enjoy a moment to maximise self-expression/
reflection in an alternate realm complete with a giant waterbed, interactive digital ceiling, and GIF photo booth—plus the chance to create their own bespoke bottle label. Free ALT will also be available to all!
