Sydney songwriter Sarah Yagki today releases her second single for 2021 in ‘Shared Eyes’. Following on from January’s striking track ‘This Won’t Hurt’, the latest from Yagki is another strong effort from one of Sydney’s freshest new voices.
‘Shared Eyes’ – like previous Sarah Yagki material – sees the artist play with darker pop sounds, threading drama through arrangement built on rhythm, seductive grooves and stirring vocals. Yagki’s grasp on melody and her richness in tone makes ‘Shared Eyes’ her most refined effort to date.
Stemming from personal memories, the song is a collection of observations Yagki has had as she’s grown into her own person. Music is often treated as a way of therapy and escape and for Yagki, this tune in particular charts her evolution personally, as well as creatively.
For the song, Yagki teamed up once more with James Guido at Obseen Recordings in Bowral, as well as mastering engineer Klaus Hill to bring ‘Shared Eyes’ to life.
“‘Shared Eyes’ acts as a storybook to retelling my distant relationship with a parent. The verse, I created to represent me as a child and the song transitions through my teenage years. I’ve been writing songs since I was 13 and quite often, they come quickly to me. ‘Shared Eyes’ was actually written over many years as the subject matter was constantly evolving as I was growing with the song.” Sarah Yagki
