Sad Palace ~ ‘Frostbeat’ (Music Video)
“Frostbeat” begins as a low-key jam that matches the serenity of the video, but finishes strong with the slow addition of more instruments, showcasing an electric guitar riff that is anything but icey.” EARMILK
“Sad Palace create glacial pop” DIY — “strong and expansive” The 405 – “Sparkling with potential” Clash – “confidence in creativity” DORK
South Coast quartet Sad Palace reveal the video to their latest single, Frostbeat, released via Kissability last month. Affirming the given name, the track is a soulful gem, built on icy grooves and jazzy breaks before descending into the crispest killer riff you’ll hear this side of good taste.
The band explain the themes, and trials and tribulations, behind creating the accompanying visual: “The video is a representation of some of the more frustrating aspects of being creative, with parallels to a bit of Greek mythology. We nearly bit off more than our skinny frames could chew lugging that organ up and the sunburn was spectacular.”
With both a nod to the mythological Sisyphus, and some serious hammer on organ violence, there’s something for both the cerebral and the brash in here – perfectly echoing the dynamic juxtapositions of the track itself.
Sad Palace look set to break beyond their small town constraints, possessing the creativity and ambition to level-up to national indie stalwarts.
Frostbeat is available to stream now, and will also be available as a limited edition cassette for Cassette Store Day 2017 (October 14th).
