What is your name and role within Sabo?
Sabo is my artist, dj, producer name and is simply short for my last name Sabatini. I’ve had this nickname since I was 10, given to me at a summer soccer camp.
How did you start?
I started DJing in the early 90’s playing underground warehouse Raves in the North East USA
Where are you based?
Sunny Los Angeles.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
Its never the same process. Sometimes I start with a beat I made, then record a live musician jamming on top, and develop ideas from there.
Other times I start with a musical sample I like, and then build the groove around that.
I like to change my methods so every song is a new challenge.
What are you working on right now?
I own and run my record label Sol Selectas, and have been working on the Summer Sol II compilation release, along with a coinciding Summer Tour though out USA and Europe. Apart from that I’m working on a remix for Acid Pauli, and a few collaboration tracks with Metrika, Uner, and Amine K. I’m also working on a Sol Selectas apparel line with my girlfriend.
What is your gear setup?
I use my laptop with Ableton, have a midi piano keyboard, and a mic to record. That’s it.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
I cook and I skateboard. Cooking is like making music to me, adding the right ingredients and experimenting with recipes to come up with a new dish. It calms me down and helps to reset my brain during long studio sessions. And skateboarding has been with me forever, my 1st love even before DJing. Its like meditation for me. Each run takes 100% concentration and in that moment there is nothing else in the world that matters aside from landing the trick.
How would you describe your music genre?
Deep Tribal Mystic Music.
Do you know any music theory?
I played piano for 7 years as a kid.
What are your plans for the future?
Create more smiles on the dance floor and unite people through music.
Bring the Sol Selectas sound to all parts of the world.
Help up and coming producers break into the scene by supporting and releasing their music.
What are you listening to at the moment?
All the new music for Summer Sol II compilation, and the next releases on Sol Selectas.
When are you playing next?
Lightening in a Bottle Festival end of May, then off to Europe for the
Summer Sol Tour with stops in Mykonos, Ibiza, Paris, Tunisia, Istanbul, Beirut, Morocco, and more…
