PLANET RELEASE PSYCHEDELIC, ANIMATED ‘REASON WHY’ VIDEO AND ANNOUNCE AUSTRALIAN TOUR DATES

“As always the choruses are sky-high, but that riff definitely took us by surprise.” – Happy " Reason Why is a step into a heavier direction for the group, contrasting their more indie-pop shadings with strong, dominative guitar riffs that really take a step up.” – Pilerats "An immediate rush of blistering guitar work." – Amnplify https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h5MtRoiJYg   Following the release of their searing new single ‘Reason Why,’ Sydney rock outfit PLANET today return with a brand-new video for the track, as well as announcing a run of Australian tour dates this November and December.   The video is an animated, psychedelic trip, created by artist Callum Scott-Dyson and perfectly epitomizes the joyous, effervescent energy expressed through the song’s music, as well as aura of perplexity articulated in the song’s lyrics . “I wrote 'Reason Why' about five years ago,” explains PLANET frontman, Matty Took. “Lyrically it’s all about uncertainty, imbalance, mental confusion and being uninspired. Melodically, it is dreamy and flowing, which counteracts with the duelling riff that smacks you in the face.”   Speaking about the video, director Scott-Dyson says the clip is an, “abstract exploration of an existential crisis, the protagonist (of sorts) struggling through his dreams and reality, exploring his past and frustrating present.” PLANET has already had a massive year off the back of releasing ‘Reason Why’ and their previous single ‘Never New’ via new label partner Dew Process. Alongside new music, they’ve mounted multiple international tours, played festivals across the globe, and performed a string of packed Australian dates.    Today PLANET (including frontman Matty Took, guitarist Tom Peppitt, bassist Jimmy Weaver and drummer Harry Stewart-Weeks) stand alongside contemporary artists like Hatchie, Alvvays, Kurt Vile and the Middle Kids as artists writing music with a modern sense of nostalgia that sweeps people off their feet with its beauty and sincerity, while also possessing the sense of fun and light that is undeniably pristine pop. There’s a dreamy, ethereal presence that flows from start to finish in all of their songs (particularly in the wall of noise that washes over ‘Reason Why’), dancing between the shimmering guitar tones, the splashing cymbals and winding bass lines, as the buzzing texture of lead vocalist Took’s inimitable voice sings the kind of aching lyricism The Triffid’s David McComb would have been proud of – his words longing for lives and loves past with an equal sense of joy, humour and heartbreak.   Over the last few years the band has gone from playing local pub gigs to huge stages across the globe, having built a large international following that sees them pulling as many punters abroad as they do back home. And through that road dog work ethic, their reputation as a live force has grown with the venue sizes – despite still firmly being in the formative chapter of their career.   With new music and even more shows planned to be announced in the near future, it’s no more evident that climate change is accelerating, as PLANET look set to continue to heat up.
