by the partae

Pitch Music & Arts 2018 will feature some of the planet’s most sought-after acts including Sven Vath, Maceo Plex, Marcel Dettmann, The Black Madonna and more…

Building on its now echoing precedent, Pitch Music & Arts 2018 will possibly feature the most credible collection of contemporary dance acts to ever perform in Australia at one event.

Following the recent announcements that Pitch Music & Arts will host techno legend Len Faki, The Black Madonna (Mixmag’s 2016’s DJ of the year), the Australian debut live perfomance of Irish house duo Bicep, and USA’s fastest rising techno star Avalon Emerson, come the full international lineup (plus a handful of local artists)…

With over 30 international guests, the lineup is an absolute treat for any discerning electronic music lover, and includes massive names like live electronic duo Booka Shade; Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann; German House pioneer Motor City Drum Ensemble; electronic jazz auteur Floating Points; post-dubstep duo Mount Kimbie; Dekmantelhouse favourite Tom Trago; the return of Diynamic mainstay HOSH;Visionquest main man Seth Troxler, plus many more!

Full lineup below:

Maceo Plex (USA)

When you talk about the most popular, yet credible, DJs in the world,Maceo Plex will feature in that conversation every time. After all, he came in hot at #4 on Resident Advisor’s 2016 Top 100 DJ poll, and his Berlin Boiler Room set is in the top 5 most watched Boiler Rooms sets ever. His productions feature a thick techno aesthetic which is accessible yet challenging at the same time, but when he is not slamming dancefloors, he can also show a more euphoric side with tracks that has climbed up the DJ charts. Indeed, the American has been responsible for some of the globe biggest dancefloor bombs. Once he arrives it would have been 5 long years since Maceo last touched foot in Australia. A Pitch Music & Arts festival Victorian exclusive. Soundcloud
Sven Väth (GER)
Sven Väth is quite simply unique. A legend in his own lifetime with a commitment and passion that has influenced the advance and evolution of electronic music: Clubs, record labels and careers have been launched by the hand of Väth. He is a risk-taking visionary, an instigator, an innovator and very possibly invincible. He is still highly active in 2017 which means an astonishing 35 years as a Dj – and an equally astonishing 17th season for his Cocoon branded event in Ibiza. It’s been 3 years since the techno don performed in Australia, and Pitch Music & Arts will have the Victorian exclusive to host the legend. Utterly professional, and utterly unpredictable, there is no one else like him. Not even close… Soundcloud
Booka Shade (GER)(Live)

Booka Shade’s music absorbs influences from all genres: classical, rock, jazz, film score, which has arguably contributed to their wide appeal. Their impressive contribution to electronic music across so many genres since 2004’s ‘Memento’ has seen them become dance music pioneers. 20 years, dozens of EPs and 6 albums later, Booka Shade have become more than a household name, synonymous with the spirit which drives electronic music and setting a precedent to which electronic music is still judged by today. They continue to pioneer and redefine the boundaries of music in their Berlin studio whilst touring their live production internationally. Soundcloud
The Black Madonna (USA)
In December of 2012, North America’s oldest independent venue, Smart Bar announced the The Black Madonna as their resident, along withDerrick Carter and Frankie Knuckles. Within a year, she became the club’s first ever Creative Director in its three decade history, bringing a decidedly anti-establishment philosophy to her curatorial style. Her retooled residency program reflects a distinct set of values, adding Honey Soundsystem, DVS1, Regis, Honey Dijon and transgressive events such as Men’s Room to an already diverse offering.

It’s easy to see why the American was selected as Mixmag’s 2016 DJ of the Year: She is a sublime technician behind the decks, and her fluent and dynamic vinyl sets can span from disco to techno. And then of course, there’s her inimitable and infectious ability to connect with any dance floor, which along with her technical skills, has cemented her as a beloved regular and crowd favourite across the globe. Soundcloud

Marcel Dettmann (GER)

DJ and producer Marcel Dettmann is recognised as one of the most influential proponents of contemporary techno. Widely associated with iconic trademarks including Berlin, Berghain and Hard Wax, Dettmann stays true to his roots by consistently innovating his interpretation of electronic music, integrating art with the scene. As a passionate DJ and one of the faces of Berghain, Dettmann seeks to inspire his listeners with sounds both reduced and rough, balanced by emotional and surprising moments throughout his sets. Between pure techno, banging Chicago, tracks old and new of the past twenty-five years, Marcel Dettmann communicates his message with an apparent effortlessness. Soundcloud
Bicep (IRE)(Live)

Touring the world over; curating and selling out a long list of Feel My Bicep parties (including Manchester’s Warehouse Project and a 12 week residency at London’s XOYO); a #8 ranking in Resident Advisor’s “Top 100 DJs” 2016 poll: Bicep is easily one of the scene’s biggest acts, their popularity accentuated by a steady stream of high quality productions which includes ‘Just’, and their 2016 remix of Isaac Tichauer’s ‘Higher Level’. In 2016 they launched and tested a roof raising live show they built themselves, a highly acclaimed visual extravaganza which they have rolled out at festivals like Coachella, Glastonbury, Primavera Sound, Melt, Dekmantel, Lovebox andParklife. Now Pitch Music & Arts is next in line – expect Bicep to be one of the highlights of the weekend. Soundcloud

In her DJ sets and productions she offers a timeless narrative that reflects a passion for the sound design of new wave, the futurism of techno, the soul of American house and the exuberance of rave. Though she’s built up steam in 2015 from multiple sets at Panorama Bar, and globetrotting all around Europe and North America, she’s just getting started, and continues to outdo herself with original productions released on labels like Shtum, Spring Theory, Icee Hot, and her own DJ tool edit pool, theCybernedits series. Soundcloud

A rare specimen who is equally likely to be found playing to intimate audiences as to huge festival crowds, her record selection is distinctive from that of her peers. She holds a highly regarded residency at Good Room in her home of Brooklyn, New York and is a regular at Panorama Bar in Berlin, all places where she is able to explore different sounds whilst still captivating the dancefloor. Soundcloud
Seth Troxler (USA)
Seth Troxler is an event. His lust for life shines through in every set he plays, always giving 200% wherever he performs. The Detroit-native has done it all, from being Resident Advisor’s number one polling DJ to co-founding a highly successful label (Visionquest Records). His personality is as colourful off the stage as it is on the stage, and he truly is one of a handful of working DJs who can claim the title of ‘Rockstar’. His set at Pitch can definitely be put in the ‘Unmissable’ category.

Ben UFO (ENG)

Over the past five years, Ben UFO along with his label Hessle Audiohas acquired a deserved reputation as one of contemporary dance music’s most daring and wide-ranging selectors, with his keen ear and razor-sharp technical abilities enabling him to cut between eras, lineages and mixing styles with dazzling ease and fluidity. Having cut his teeth in early dubstep and drum ’n’ bass, his roots lie in UK rave culture – yet his selections cast the net wider, drawing new mutations of this culture into the orbit of house, techno and other global dancefloor sounds. A regular to the annual Resident Advisor Top 100 DJ poll, Ben is considered the DJ’s DJ. Soundcloud

We cannot be more pleased to host the Australian debut performance of Marvin & GuySoundcloud

Rodriguez Jr.
(Live)(FR)

Olivier Mateu’s wide-ranging inspirations and interests found their ultimate outlet as his alias took form into Rodriguez Jr., positioning him as mobilee’s new master of eclecticism. Rodriguez Jr. reveals a different incarnation of Mateu’s musical psyche, one that strides ahead, guided only by his kaleidoscopic vision; moving through shimmering, contemplative electronica, to deep and urgent techno, leftfield melodic accents and quirky pop refrains. Drawing inspiration from artists as diverse as Stockhausen, LFO, Carl Craig, Eric Satie, Kraftwerk, andMichael Polnareff, Rodriguez Jr.’s spirit of adventure translates as soaring creativity, and music that cannot be pigeonholed. Soundcloud
Tom Trago (NL)
Tom Trago’s relationship with music has always been particularly intense. “I couldn’t imagine life without music,” he says. “I feel this physical need to make music every day. It’s like my body needs it as much as it needs food, water or sunshine.” Trago’s immersion in music is almost total. An internationally renowned DJ, producer, live performer and label owner with three successful albums to his name, the Dutchman divides his time between all-day studio sessions, DJ gigs and live shows all over the world.
