Far from the glitz and glamour of modern pop, PhilHancock’s moving new single ‘H8U’ is an artistic cut above the rest.
Influenced by a year of pain following an inevitable breakup, ‘H8U’ is an ambient, future-pop journey, blending dreamy melodies and smooth piano tones with powerful and melancholic lyrics of growth and heartbreak. A compelling and honest narrative, the Australian songwriter channels “the darkness and self-loathing that follows the end of a relationship” to form this touching, ‘sad banger’.
While his initial dream was songwriting for others, Phil now follows the footsteps of his idols TroyeSivanand Luav by putting his own stories out for people to connect with themselves. “The songs i’m writing now are my own personal stories and I can’t see anyone else singing them”, Hancock explains.
This is the second original offering from the independent Brisbane based artist and producer. Phil’s debut single ‘Heaven’ has already passed 95,000 streams since its release just over a month ago. With even more to come from Phil in 2019, ‘H8U’ is just the beginning for this emerging master of the ‘sad banger’ genre.
‘H8U’ is out EVERYWHERE now.
