What is your name and role within Otha?
My name is Othalie Husøy and I’m Otha.
Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?
I’m currently based in Oslo, Norway. It’s funny, I don’t know much about the music scene here.
My collaborator Tyler is from Vancouver, Canada. So sometimes it almost feels like I know
more about the Canadian music scene than the Norwegian one.
How and when did Otha form?
Otha formed when me and my boyfriend (now hubby) Tyler Johnson made One of the Girls in Vancouver, Canada.
Please tell us about your new single ‘I’m On Top’ where and when did you record?
I’m on Top was recorded in my studio apartment in Oslo in September/October 2018.
What influenced the sound and songwriting for this track?
I’m on Top is me trying to make a party song. The song is about needing to have fun just for
a moment, but the stress and other consuming thoughts are trying to stop you from the fun.
How do you usually go about writing music and lyrics?
The song writing and lyrics comes together when me and Tyler are jamming in the studio.
How did you first start playing music?
I started playing classical piano when I was 8 years old, and I also played the cornet in the school brass band.
You live in different countries (Norway and Canada) please tell us about this multi-national set up, how and why you have this arrangement:
It’s not always fun with a multi-national set up, there’s a lot of rules and policies that one would never think of. But if you want to be together you’ll find a way.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
These days I’m listening to Ariana Grande, Charli XCX and Channel Tres <3
What do you like to do away from music?
I like traveling, eating good food, hiking, and hanging out at the beach.
What do you have planned for the remainder of 2018 going into 2019?
Finishing my exams and Christmas with the fam <3
