NGV Senior Curator of Contemporary Design and Architecture Ewan McEoin leads audiences on a tour of three installations at the NGV for Open House Melbourne, including John Wardle Architect’s Somewhere Other, SO – IL: Viewing China and the 2018 Architecture Commission Doubleground. This program begins at NGV Australia and includes a ten minute walk from NGV Australia to NGV International.

NGV Friday Nights returns this winter for the 2019 Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series. This season features the best of Australia’s vibrant musical talent, exclusive late-night access to theTerracotta Warriors: Guardians of Immortality and Cai Guo-Qiang: The Transient Landscape exhibition, bars and dumplings in the pop-up Hutong Dumpling Bar.

Rainbow Chan is a singer, producer and multi-disciplinary artist who has built a reputation with her idiosyncratic brand of pop and vibrant aesthetics. Drawing on nostalgia, diaspora and her Chinese heritage – the result is a collage of seemingly disparate sounds and cultures. Chan has toured extensively including performances at the Sydney Opera House, Iceland Airwaves, Vivid, Mona Foma and Melbourne Music Week, and received two SMAC Award nominations for Best Live Act and Record of the Year.

Performer, photographer, visual artist, DJ and vocal powerhouse Kira Puru continues to prove herself as a force to be reckoned with. Recognised for her dynamic live performances and genre-defying writing style, the recent single Molotov charted in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2018, and was released as part of her debut self-titled EP which also features breakthrough single Tension.

Local artist Filomena Coppola leads a private drawing session beneath Cai Guo-Qiang’s monumental installation Murmuration (Landscape), a flock of 10,000 porcelain starlings described by Cai Guo-Qiang as the ‘souls of the warriors in the sky’. Working with pencil, explore the tonal range of light and dark and create evocative works that draw inspiration from the texture and detail of Cai Guo-Qiang’s installation. Participants are invited to a private viewing of Terracotta Warriors: Guardians of Immortality and Cai Guo-Qiang: The Transient Landscape from 8–9am, before the drawing session begins.
Facilitator Filomena Coppola is a Melbourne based artist and teacher whose work explores migration, cultural loss and role of the feminine. As an educator, she loves teaching drawing and exploring the personal connection between the hand of the maker and the emotion carried through the work.
