A wave of aural delight, Sydney’s visionary producer Oliver Tank makes a bold return with his engrossing fourth official release, The Ocean Fades Into The Sky, his first project since 2017.
Across 15 tracks of atmospheric and textural bliss, Oliver Tank never fails to craft otherworldly soundscapes to drift away with. This project is no different, whether it be the rich chords and sharp percussion on ‘Blame on Me’, delicate, ambient arrangement on ‘Made of Gold’, or moving and heartfelt character and sentimental vocals on ‘Look The Other Way’, each vibrant segment stands out in a unique and irresistible way.
With most of the pieces created by the oceanside, it’s no wonder the release flaunts a breezy and rippling nature. It was this that also inspired the title of the project, “One day a little while back as I looked out to sea, the sky was the same colour as the ocean and they sort of faded together on the horizon. It was truly beautiful,” Oliver explains.
Frequent collaborator Fawn Meyers makes an appearance on two tracks, an addition which compliments Tank’s instrumentals masterfully. While ‘Silver Lining’ sees the pair wandering off into the cosmos, ‘Just My Type’ is bold and punchy, with Meyers’ melodies floating effortlessly through the serene sea.
While it might not seem it, there was a point where this release might not have seen the light of day. Given his elongated time between releases, Oliver began to feel his music didn’t have a place, and became unsure about his future making music. Flash forward to 2019, and after a year honing the sounds on The Ocean Fades Into The Sky, Oliver re-found his inspiration and finished the project.
Oliver released his debut Dreams in 2011, followed by the stunning Slow Motion Music in late 2013, featuring collaborations with Ta-Ku, Hayden Calnin and the aforementioned Fawn Meyers. Going on to release his debut album OT in 2017, Oliver Tank’s diverse catalogue has now has garnered a whopping 7-million total streams.
Going on to support music luminaries Active Child, Youth Lagoon, Bonobo, Lana Del Rey, James Blake and Lorde as well as headline national tours and sets at The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City and Falls Festival, Oliver Tank’s live show is as equally engaging as his releases. Well worth the wait, dive into Oliver Tank’s innovative new offering now with a revamped live show coming in 2020.
