Fabric xx and Novel are partnering up to present one of the most loved names in global dance: Ricardo Villalobos. For twenty years fabric have played an integral role in not just shaping the UK clubbing landscape, but also clubbing culture globally. For their first Australian outing they’ve chosen a highly capable team of ambassadors to help celebrate the impact of their clubbing legacy.
Leading the charge is Ricardo Villalobos who has definitely played his part in fabric’s journey: in 2007 he compiled a fabric compilation annually his quarterly bookings are some of the club’s most memorable and busiest nights, and he’s graced innumerable stages at the world’s biggest events and venues. When Villalobos play anything can happen, and whether house, techno, trance or minimal, a universal groove binds his sets earning him international acclaim across his three-decades-long career. The Chilean born artist has become synonymous for not just being the life of the party, but for being the Party.
Joining Villalobos will be a host of fabric regulars, including their longstanding and respected resident Craig Richards, regular guest and fabric techno champion Matthew Jonson, and new fabric resident Bobby.
There isn’t a continent where Ricardo hasn’t played; his choice of music is trend-setting for other DJs and fans alike, and even though his tracks are never commercial, they are immensely successful and known beyond the borders of the underground music. Ricardo’s inexhaustible creativity and innovation and his unfailing feel for the crowd make him a unique artist in the world of electronic music. Not many have acquired a cult status quite like Ricardo Villalobos – and not many will. Soundcloud
Craig Richards (UK)
Unlike most of his peers, Craig has achieved worldwide recognition by staying in one place. The musical identity of fabric is based around his weekly residency. His late night, early morning sets are legendary – challenging, tripped out, quirky and never the same – an ever-changing soundtrack that has defined the musical identity of the worlds most famous underground club. Matthew Jonson (Live)(CAN)
Mathew Jonson really is one of a kind. He’s developed one of the most distinctive voices in electronic dance music: when you hear one of Jonson’s tracks, you almost immediately know it’s his. And yet there’s no mistaking any given track for another. His music offers a rare fusion of populist intensities and nuanced musicality. With a keen understanding for the needs of the dancefloor and the universal laws of house and techno, he’s thrown out the rule book time and time again, sneaking tricks learned from electro and even drum’n’bass into minimal clubs, and loading up his B-sides with tracks that do what they damned well please.Soundcloud
