Following on from releasing their critically praised new single ‘Garden Hose Rainbows’, Central Coast-based indie-rock trio Nelipot have just revealed the enigmatic accompanying music video – shot and directed by Mitchell Gates (Lumin Gate Visuals).
The video is conceptually supplementary to the song, building on the struggle between the acceptance of normality against the desire to be recognised as an individual. Again, like the track, the clip goes about presenting this through an obscured and abstract lens that Neli seem to attach to all of their visual releases.
Bassist Jordyn Grant describes the production process behind the clip:
“The video was shot inside a spare room at our lead singer’s family home. They gave us free reign of the space for the weekend and we were able to rework the room to turn it into a set. The set was so small that none of the lighting equipment/rigs could fit in the room, so Mitch (the director) had to setup ladders outside the house and build DIY mounts for the lights to shine into the set from the outside windows. All costuming and props for the shoot were found in our houses”.
Since the release of ‘Garden Hose Rainbows’, the track has been strongly supported by the likes oftriple j, triple j Unearthed and worldwide tastemakers Clash (UK), Indie Obsessive (USA), ohestee (CAN), YACK! Magazine (UK), Little Indie Blogs (UK), The Girls at the Rock Show(USA), Pilerats, Savage Thrills and Wickedd Childd.
To coincide with the release, the band is currently touring the East Coast, where all shows have hit capacity. Two gigs remain in Melbourne on Friday June 14 and in Sydney on Saturday July 6. This continues on from a relentless touring schedule where the group have supported the likes of Boo Seeka, Lime Cordiale, The Jungle Giants, Alpine and Luca Brasi.
