Aromanticism out Friday September 22 on Jagjaguwar via Inertia Music
“…like Radiohead’s Thom Yorke rewrote the Nina Simone songbook and gave it to Bjork to sing; challenging, otherworldly but remarkably beautiful.”
Sydney Morning Herald, Sydney Festival 2017 review ★★★★
“His voice was the peak of the day.”
Herald Sun, Sugar Mountain 2017 review
“His looped, undulating vocals are surely the sounds we’ll hear when being ushered through the gates of heaven.”
The Music, Melbourne 2017 review
Following the announcement of his signing to Jagjaguwar, Moses Sumney is back today to detail the release of his debut album. Aromanticism is a concept album about lovelessness as a sonic dreamscape. Set for Friday September 22 release on Jagjaguwar via Inertia Music, it seeks to interrogate the social constructions around romance. The debut will include the recently released single “Doomed“, as well as new versions of standouts “Lonely World” and “Plastic“.
To coincide with the announcement, Moses is sharing a live performance of “Doomed”, filmed at the historic St. Stephen’s Uniting Church in Sydney as part of his appearance at the Sydney Festival earlier in the year. The understated delivery is demonstrative of Sumney’s imposing live performances, for which he is already well known.
The full set can be listened to live on Double J today at 3pm AEST, and will be available to stream on the Double J site for seven days after its airing.
