Moaning Lisa is the product of four Canberra-bred, Melbourne-based music dropouts who found purpose in making loud noises together. Their music operates on the edge of the grunge genre: somewhere between composed restraint and fuzzed-out, life-affirming alternative rock.
Today the iconic 4 -piece announce their official signing to Wollongong label Farmer & The Owl, which will see the powerhouse outfit join a stellar roster of artists including Hockey Dad and Bad//Dreems, amongst others.
Of the signing Moaning Lisa writes “We’re so excited to be working with Farmer & The Owl. Wollongong has always been close to our hearts. We love that they have small-town roots and then these big, worldwide aspirations. It’s so great to have a team that’s so supportive of our music and that wants us to do our own thing and be ourselves. We can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve got in store.”
What started as a late-night email chain has led to the beginning of an exciting new venture for both the band and the label. Kate Marning, Label Manager at Farmer & The Owl explains “it’s not often you want to check an email that pops up at 10.36pm on a Friday evening, whilst you’re binge-watching Seinfeld for the upteenth time. But the allure of it being new Moaning Lisa music was too strong to resist. And boy, did opening that email reap huge rewards. The Farmer team, and our brilliant label partner in BMG, were all thrilled & excited at the prospect of working with Moaning Lisa. We’ve all been fans of them for numerous years now, so it was super flattering that they may be interested in working alongside us. The new music they have up their sleeve has made a significant imprint on us and has been on heavy repeat in our office since we first heard it. We’re honoured to welcome Moaning Lisa to the Farmer & The Owl/BMG family and can’t wait to share what they’ve been working on with everyone. It’s all killer, and no filler, so stay tuned”.
Alongside the signing, Moaning Lisa have also announced their Something Tour. Having spent the last few years perfecting new music and elevating their live show, Moaning Lisa will embark on a tour of the East Coast including; Vic On The Park in Sydney, La La La’s in Wollongong and a special hometown show at UC Hub in Canberra. Known for their raucous and razor-sharp live shows, these are not to be missed.
“It’s no secret that performing live is our lifeblood” Moaning Lisa write, “so being able to hit the road again after such a long time away is a very welcome thrill for us. We’ve been writing in isolation for the past year, which has meant we’ve had lots of time to perfect and elevate our sound, but it sure got lonely and cabin fever has us itching to get in front of a crowd. Expect new songs and sounds, new takes on the classics, and a hell of a lot of euphoric energy at these shows.”

ABOUT MOANING LISA
Moaning Lisa is composed of Charlie Versegi (singer/guitarist), Hayley Manwaring (singer/bassist) Ellen Chan (lead guitarist) and Hayden Fritzlaff (drummer). Renowned for creating an atmosphere entirely of their own, the band deftly combines garage rock, grunge fantasy with “one massive, cosy, accepting love-fest” (Rush On Rock). It is this live prowess which has landed them support slots for DZ Deathrays, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Mitski as well as slots at some of the countries most prestigious festival such as; Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, Yours and Owls and Kennedy’s Creek Festival.
Moaning Lisa have received numerous accolades since the band’s inception including winning Best Live Act for NLMA’s in 2019, winning the triple j unearthed Groovin’ The Moo competition, being the #2 most played artist on triple j unearthed 2019, with single ‘Comfortable’ being named BMA Magazine’s Song of The Year‘. Their second EP Do You Know Enough? continued to garner praise, catching the attention of Triple J and US label, Father/Daughter Records, the latter of which went on to release the EP in North America.
