Following the release of debut album Eureka Moment last month and the announcement of their east coast tour (which commences Thursday (25.4) in Canberra!), Melbourne post-punk duo, Skydeck are pleased to share their new video for single ‘Tourniquet Too’.
Tourniquet Too is a synth-pop and post-punk hybrid, the lyrics spilling forth in a stream-of-consciousness ramble about the anxieties of life. “It’s a fine on top of an unpaid fine / It’s hiding the fact that you really tried.” Clemens drones in his distinctive, monotone vocals, stark contrast to the upbeat drums and winding synths.
Directed by Eva Lazzaro, Clemens says of the clip, “Tourniquet Too is about fear of expression, and the video clip traces one of the writer’s many fears, visual misinterpretation, to an absurd conclusion — the writer providing the clip’s cast with intentionally incorrect content in the guise of legitimate lyrics. On a superficial level, the performers seem confused by the conceit but ultimately wrest back the control of the relationship as the incorrect lyrics become legitimised by appearing as karaoke-style captions.”
With radio favourites ‘Never Not that’, ‘Live Bait’ and ‘Solid State’, Eureka Moment has received critical acclaim from the likes of Noisey, BTR Today and Ripe Music, radio adds across FBi Radio, 2SER, 3RRR, RTR FM and Most FM, praise from triple j’s Declan Byrne, a feature on BandCamp‘s ‘New and Notable’, plus adds to Spotify editorial playlists ‘Fresh Finds’ and ‘Six Strings’.
Skydeck embark on their east coast tour this week, stopping by Canberra, Sydney andThirroul, and Melbourne next Friday. See full dates and further details below.
