Perth-based producer Drew Mayhills makes uncompromising experimental electronica. On his latest release ‘Neon Zen,’ Mayhills explores a unique hybrid of halftime, downtempo, hip hop and techno. In 2018 he was a finalist for the West Australian Music (WAM) Song of the Year in the electronic category for ‘Formlessness.’
He regularly collaborates with yoga and meditation studios to create immersive soundscape experiences.
As an Ableton Certified Trainer, when Mayhills isn’t creating, he teaches a diverse range of students how to create the sounds they hear in their heads.
‘In Shadow,’ the first single and opening cut from Mayhills’ forthcoming release ‘Neon Zen’, declares itself with a churning groove and haunting ethnic refrain. Director Jackson Heeley’s video extends the idea of the shadow in a way that is equal parts visceral, confronting and necessary.
‘In Shadow’ will be available across all digital music outlets Friday July 12. The release includes a moving chillwave-inspired remix from Melbourne-based producer, Matt Ridgway (Winterpark).
