How did you start?
A friend of mine was a DJ and I had already acquired quite the record collection, just out of love for the music. Because he loved my records, we struck up a deal, whereas he would teach me to DJ and I would allow him to use my records. He eventually showed me the ropes.
Where are you based?
Please give an example of your music writing process?
I get inspired by many things, such as hearing other artists, songs & bands or by seeing art & films. I usually write ideas down in my notes on my phone for when I enter the studio.
What are you working on right now?
Nothing at the moment, but I will begin working on an EP shortly.
What is your gear setup?
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
I like catching up with my inspirational circle of friends, doing yoga, reading & swimming in water of all kinds (laps, ocean, etc). I especially value my beach time at sunset and living a vegan lifestyle. All of these things elevate my life.
How would you describe your music genre?
All Things Deep. I usually gravitate towards Deep, Tribal, Techy & Synthy sounds. I also love vocals when done right, as well as chants. Usually anything that when I listen to it, my body starts moving involuntarily.
Do you know any music theory?
I rely on my intuition and trust that I can translate the musical conversation in my head into something of value on the dance floor.
What are your plans for the future?
My plan is to continue to spread the aural love, via making music. I also plan on expanding the Deep platform by taking it to new arenas. We are also in the process of making our philanthropic endeavour ‘Deep Cares’ an official non profit, so we can commit more frequently to helping those in need.
How did you get into music?
Lets just say music got into me. My dad and siblings were my initial influences.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Lots of house that has a shamanic/ceremonial feel to it. Lots of ethnic flavors, laced with drums, tech influenced with root chakra shaking bass. Deep yet with energy. I’m also always collecting music that I feel will suit our ‘Deep Exhale’ yoga/dance events, so the tempos vary.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
Tony Humphries, Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Louie Vega, Larry Levan & Gilles Peterson, as far as the veterans. Then there are artists that represent the next generation that helped fuel my fire like Calvin Harris (1st album: I Created Disco), Soul Clap & Solomun to name a few. All mainly because they represent entering new significant chapters in my musical journey.
When are you playing next?
