MARK REEVE

by the partae

How did you start?

I started in the UK listening to the prodigy and all sorts of Breakbeat and Drum n bass stuff. I slowly started getting interested in electronic music, which i have kept with me throughout the years. My move to Germany in 96-97 introduced me to the techno scene and i started djing at small parties and my own events.

Where are you currently based?

I am based in Frankfurt but will be moving soon.

Please tell us about your upcoming EP coming out on Pig & Dans label Elevate:

Yes Pig & Dan are my best mates and have been my partners in the music business for years! We all know our little secrets and I’m lucky to have such an amazing friendship with them. Pig was always in love with the track “don’t you want my love” so we decided to release it together with “finding it hard to sleep” on elevate. I have included vocal work from myself and I really hope you guys like it.

What is your gear setup?

I use Ableton 9 and Logic for some tracks. Although Ableton has become quicker to use. I have plugins from UAE to sound toys but also using the Mofo from Dave Smith is always nice. I also love using Moog sounds sampled from the Sub37 and mini moog. I think 303 acid sounds are coming back and I’ve found reason to be quite cool as well. A TB303 will also be bought this year.

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?

I love wildlife and animals. Being in the woods listening to all the sounds around you or even deep sea diving is amazing. I then come up with ideas that I probably would of never come up with. Also finding a balance to everything is important. Its good to have music around you but finding other hobbies and having a break is vital.

Do you know any music theory?

I once played the trumpet as a child but I haven’t had any real lessons since for other music instruments. All I need are synths.

What are your plans for the future?

My plans are very clear to build my label SubVision including showcases and new talent. On the producing side coming up with new things and playing at lovely festivals.

How did you get into music?

My parents and their parents have always been musicians. My Nan used to sing and give concerts in the UK. My father has always been a singer and very musical. So I guess me getting involved with music was just destiny.

What are you listening to at the moment?

I’m in the studio listening to my next collab with Pig & Dan! We have put two tracks together that will be released later on this year.

Who are your top 5 influences and icons?

Sven Väth, Carl Cox, David Bowie, Jim Morrison, Depeche Mode and Stevie Wonder.

When are you playing next?

I am playing 3 gigs on one day. All 3 are in Germany. Kuddel Muddel Festival in Frankfurt, Circle Club in Offenburg and Synticat Karlsruhe so its gonna be a big day.

Keep Raving!!
