Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?
Mert is based in Istanbul and the music scene has grown so much that there are multiple large scale events every week. Emre moved from Berlin to Seattle and the scene there is still growing with the help of a handful of clubs. Along with that, festivals like Burning Man and Lightning In A Bottle are helping our kind of music grow on the west coast of the US.
How did you first start playing music?
It all started when we were building a music streaming app with our friends, who took some courses on Ableton during the time we worked together. They helped us see how amazing it is to create tunes, and since then it has been all about learning and discovering.
What’s been happening recently?
We’ve been touring separately. Emre is introducing Lunar Plane to the Americas and Mert is touring on the other side of the world. We will get back together from time to time and play a few shows as a duo. Also, one of our tracks, Olappa, made it to Beatport’s #1 in Afro House and stayed there for two months. That was a great highlight from last summer.
Your new remix for Marcus Meinhardt is out soon, what influenced the remix?
We wanted keep the bass groove and add our own synth sounds and drums on it. We ended up experimenting with different synths and transitioning from one to the other.
What programs/instruments did you use?
We produced it on Ableton and most of the synth channels were made with Diva.
What did you find most challenging and rewarding during the creation of the remix?
The most challenging part was having multiple lead sounds and making them work together.
How do you decide on tracks to remix?
We usually look for a groove or melody that is unique and that could fit our sound.
When you have chosen a track to remix, how do you then approach the task of remixing the track?
We tidy up all the channels, eliminate the ones that we won’t be using, keep the characteristic aspects, try recreating some parts and add some bits that could fit the track. Pretty simple formula haha =)
Where and when will you be touring next?
All over the world =) An India tour for Mert and a South America tour for Emre could be happening in 2020. We can meet up for an Asia/Australia tour. We’ll see!
How do you prepare for shows?
We prepare the tracks that we are working on for road-testing, and then update our USBs with some of the new tracks that we like from other producers.
What do you like to do away from music?
Reading is a big part of our lives. It’s great for ear recovery and taking the eyes off of screens. It also helps pass the time when we travel for shows.
You’re signed to MFM Booking Agency, how is being apart of the MFM Booking Family and how have things progressed since becoming apart of the crew?
We’re really excited to be a part of it. Although it has only been a week since we started, we can say that working with MFM is going to be great.
What’s planned for the remainder of 2019 going into 2020??
To wrap up the year, we have a new single coming out on Disco Halal. We’ve been playing this track for almost a year and the responses have been amazing. We’re really excited for that one!
Favourite food and place to hangout?
Third wave coffee shops are perfect to get some work done and they have great coffee. Drinking coffee definitely sparks some inspiration in us.
