What is your name and role within the band?
Levi Hummon. I’m actually the artist, so my role is making the music, singing, and all that good stuff.
How did you start?
My dad, Marcus Hummon, is a songwriter here in Nashville so I grew up in the business. I played guitar and wrote songs from a young age, but never really pursued it professionally until my sophomore year of college down in Florida. The music bug hit me hard, and I basically moved back home to Nashville to really chase my dream. I quickly signed my first publishing deal with Hall Of Fame writer, Desmond Child, and after that I began touring the country and writing as much as possible.
Where are you based?
I’m based in Nashville, TN. I’m actually one of the few true locals left. This town is growing like crazy.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
I think of myself as being melody driven. I usually find that words naturally fit themselves into certain melodies or themes. I also will occasionally wake up with a hook in my head and have to sing about it.
What are you working on right now?
We just released my single “Don’t Waste The Night” digitally, so I’ve been touring and supporting the song. I’m constantly in the studio and constantly writing when on the road. So I keep myself very busy.
What is your gear setup?
I play mostly acoustic. I play a Gibson j-35 and run it through my LR Baggs preamp.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
Outside of music, I really enjoy hiking and going to the gym – anything to keep myself active. It’s a great alternative to the stress of constantly thinking about music, the things happening in the industry, and the yes’ and no’s you constantly hear.
How would you describe your music genre?
Definitely pop country, but I like to think I have my own somewhat “edgier” take on that genre. I’ve always rallied around my voice, and I am a singer songwriter first. I think my music describes me as a listener, and I try and write to what I am inspired by musically.
Do you know any music theory?
What are your plans for the future?
I’m looking forward to continuing touring this year and releasing more music. I love being out on the road and building a solid fan base of people who really enjoy the music.
What are you listening to at the moment?
On my current playlist I’m listening to Kaleo, Chris Stapleton, John Mayer, The Wallflowers record, and I finally listened to the full Bruno Mars record.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
Jeff Buckley, Ed Sheeran, Keith Urban, Jack White, and I love a lot of the Dierks Bentley records.
When are you playing next?
I head out to Oklahoma for a songwriting festival. It’s going to be very acoustic and intimate. Also my dad will be there and we never get to play shows together.
