Following last week’s announcement of The Lemon Twigs’ musical album Go To School(out 24 August), the band releases new single ‘Small Victories’ today. This is the second song released from the 15-track opus that was written, recorded, produced and mixed by brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario in their home in Long Island.
Ruminating on this new song, the D’Addarios say, “When life’s obstacles start to wear you down, it’s the little things that keep you going. Bowling the perfect game, catching a glass before it falls to the ground, making the train in the nick of time. While there are no guarantees, we can always count on Small Victories.”
Go To School tells the coming-of-age story of Shane, a pure of heart chimpanzee raised as a human boy as he comes to terms with the obstacles of life. Todd Rundgren and D’Addario’s mother Susan Hall play Shane’s parents. The album also features contributions from Jody Stephens (Big Star) and their fatherRonnie D’Addario. Recently released album closer ‘If You Give Enough’ reveals the moral of the fable: give a lot of love without expecting it in return and you won’t be corrupted by the hate around you.
The Lemon Twigs emerged in 2016 with their debut LP Do Hollywood, which was praised by Rolling Stone for “toting hooky songs that stand out for their intricate arrangements and delectable melodies” and the Guardian who declared it “a triumph of detailed richness and sumptuous melody, of anthemic chants and winsome ballads.” The band quickly earned fans in Elton John, Questlove, and Jack Antonoff among many others, the latter of whom said, “Prediction: The Lemon Twigs will usher in a new phase of rock.”
Later this year, The Lemon Twigs will join Arctic Monkeys on their UK and European tour as well as two nights at the Hollywood Bowl in LA.
