“One of the leaders of the New School” – Zane Lowe – Beats 1
“He’s the movement’s youngest by age, but arguably its most visible by virtue…” – triple j
“Kwame has long been on our radar of international MC’s to watch.” – Highsnobiety
Following a premiere with Zane Lowe via Apple Music’s Beats 1 this week, Kwame continues his exponential musical evolution with ‘NOBODY feat. E^ST’ – an ambitious leap in lyrical content and production.
This powerful anthem of self belief was born out of Kwame’s frustration with life, the creative industries and those who think they know it all. “The track itself is a huge reflection of the years I’ve had thus far, seeing many people come and go. It’s a reminder for myself and anyone else to listen to yourself, outside opinions are irrelevant,” he says. Kwame explains that the ‘idea of putting these actions into place is simple, it all starts by singing the one line of the hook: can’t nobody tell me no no more.’
‘NOBODY feat. E^ST’ is the second single from Kwame’s forthcoming third extended play, which follows the success of his hugely successful 2018 Endless Conversations. EP. With almost nine million streams between EP singles ‘WOW’, NO TIME’ and punch firestarter ‘CLOUDS’ (and climbing), the momentum hasn’t stopped.
2019 has already proven to be another career defining year for Kwame. Jumping into a string of headline shows across Australia, all of which sold out, the rapper traveled to the US for three packed showcases at Austin’s SXSW. Kwame then made an epic return to the Splendour in the Grass stage after winning the triple j Unearthed spot in 2018.
His most recent solo single ‘STOP KNOCKING @ MY DOOR!’ was met with huge fan support and industry acclaim. Already passing half a million streams the track also received triple j rotation, playlisting support from Apple Music as well as earning the cover of Spotify’s A1 Hip-Hop, The Drip and New Music Friday.
Earlier this month, Kwame performed an explosive set at a sold out Metro Theatre as part of Spotify’s A1 Hip-Hop event in November – where just three years earlier, he was pulled from the crowd to freestyle with A$AP Ferg. The story came full circle when A$AP Ferg reached out to congratulate Kwame on his accomplishments post show.
No stranger to sharing the stage with industry heavyweights, Kwame has supported for Migos, Skepta, 6lack, AJ Tracey and warmed up crowds nationally for Peking Duk’s biggest tour ever.
It’s difficult to find a corner of the Australian music scene that hasn’t been taken over by Kwame in 2019. Further expanding his already diverse catalogue, the collaborations have been immense for the Ghanaian Australian producer, writer, rapper and engineer. Teaming up on party track ‘Summer Rain’ with Wave Racer, Kwame then joined Matt Corby on Triple One’s ‘So Easy’. Now he adds another sonic partnership with ‘NOBODY feat. E^ST’, on arguably his most reflective work to date.
The 2018 triple j Unearthed Artist of the Year closes out his biggest year yet at Falls Festival Lorne and at Lost Paradise across the summer with the festival sets providing a warm up for more music and headline shows to be announced across the next few months.
