DROPS NEW SINGLE BRIGHT DAWN FEAT ILLY
KUREN; the 19 year old indigenous producer hailing from the tiny town of Hillston in Central West NSW (population 1500), has dropped his new single Bright Dawn, featuring ARIA nominee and ARIA Platinum selling rapper, Illy – his second release on ONETWO Records, after he delivered the track Mastercraft earlier this year.
Real name Curtis Kennedy, Kuren’s self-taught skills were cultivated by late night YouTube tutorials. Innumerable hours which saw his early works deliver emotive and engaging electronica that captured the trials of his teenage years spent supporting his family and chasing a dream that seemed so far removed from the red desert sands of his surrounds.
In regards to how the track came together, Kuren comments – “Bright Dawn has been in the works for almost a year now. It started by the most simple beat and pop melodies. Bright dawn is a song to bring people back to earth. Small things in life go wrong and you forget the big picture. As long as we are breathing and are happy then that’s all that matters”.
Kuren’s perennial evolution as an artist and storyteller has recently been cemented by his signing with ONETWO, the label owned by his long-time idol and friend, Illy, making him the latest member of the Unified family. Never content with sitting idle, Kuren has just completed 23 dates on the road as special guest on Illy’s mammoth national tour this past August to October.
Illy says “having Kuren on ONETWO is exciting for all of us. He’s got so much potential, but also he’s just a great dude. We talked about doing a track together during my Two Degrees tour that’s just finishing up, and I’m stoked that we made that happen, especially on production as sick as Bright Dawn”.
Kuren adds “once I signed the deal with ONETWO, Illy showed interested on jumping on a track! We worked out that this one would be the best fit”.
Kuren’s 2016 breakout single, Home feat. New York native, Ben Alessi provided the platform for this dream to become a reality as he transitioned from one-to-watch lists to being an artist on everyone’s radar. After composing the soundtrack for the multi-award winning SBS production My Grandmothers Lingo, Kuren ended 2016 with a nomination for Unearthed Artist of the Year at The J Awards.
Not content with the label of ‘bedroom producer’, Curtis has honed his craft and reinvented himself as a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter all the while developing a powerful live show that he took across the country with Slumberjack this year. His debut performance at Splendour in the Grass 2017 was a glimpse of an incredible future; a strong vocal performance paired with vibrant percussive switch ups that seamlessly amplify his well-known emotive roots.
Expect his debut album in 2018. Get to know Kuren.
