Kaeli McArter is a new Vancouver alt-pop singer-songwriter who weaves layers of “beautiful vocals with haunting melodies” to create memorable songs that invite listeners to hit replay. In her new 5-track EP “Secret”, to be released Fall 2019, Kaeli McArter’s dark-synth-beat-driven electro-pop songs explore a spectrum of human longings—from the dreamy aspirations of La La Land, to the need for honesty in Secret, to finding release and liberation in Round 2. Her lyrics often explore the push-pull needs for deeper connection and personal freedom. Facing the truth is important to McArter. “I see the light and darkness at play in all of us,” says Kaeli. But it’s the singer’s resilience, even in the face of loss, that listeners are left pondering.
Whether Kaeli is holed up inside her bedroom studio composing at all hours of the night, or bursting outside to run through North Shore forests, up mountain trails, and down by the sea, music runs right alongside Kaeli, a constant companion. Mirroring B.C.’s seductive-misty forests and steep mountains that she loves to explore, Kaeli McArter’s vocals can range from “hushingly intimate” one minute to “powerfully soaring” the next.
In person Kaeli McArter is effervescent, warm and upbeat. She laughs easily and often. Maybe that’s because she’s able to express her darker emotions through her music.
“When I’m being swept out to sea in a riptide of emotions, music is my lifeline back to shore,” says McArter. “My songs usually take shape at the end of whatever emotional journey I’ve been on.”
