Hey Jimmy, how are you? How was 2021 been for you personally?
Hey guys .. nice to meet you! I’m very well thanks looking forward to the Xmas break! It’s been a good year for me personally , I’ve achieved a fair bit which is good, my track Amasonica got played as the closing track in Sam divines defected radio show and made it to their defected playlists on Spotify and have enjoyed getting back into the studio and seeing friends again!!
How have you found the return to partying and DJing again after the pandemic?
The return is slowly building up again it’s so nice to see people out again that want to connect with music.
What did you miss most about it?
I missed the connection with music and seeing the enjoyment on peoples faces on the dance floor the most and being able to grab a beer from the bar. It’s been a shocker for everyone.
Do you make music that suits certain labels or do you create first and worry about that later?
I try to make music to suit certain labels as much as I can but sometimes you go down a rabbit hole and it ends up in a totally different direction which can be fun and you come out of the hole with a carrot.
What is your current studio set up like? Are you into collecting hardware?
Studio is great , I love the 909 sounds along with the SH101 for bass and a few other hardware keyboards .. i work with logic and mix in a well calibrated room with a decent monitoring system and apogee converters .. I love collecting hardware! I’m a bit of a geek like that.
Where is your best environment as a DJ? A small dark club or a huge outdoor festival stage? Late at night for the weirdos or early so you can play slow and eclectic etc etc?
It depends what mood I’m in. I love both tbh but my favourite is early morning sunrise at burning man dressed as an alien or something similar .. Down and dirty in the dark club and like to mix it up for the early morning sets. I love playing at festivals as well and weirdos. Haha I think festivals win.
How do you work, do you have an idea in your head you work towards or do you just experiment and jam and see what happens?
Yeah I can have an idea in my head and I need to get it out into the music asap but as I mentioned it’s easy to head down the rabbit hole and experiment and see where it takes you .. that’s when the magic happens.
How did you tackle your edit of Outta Space for the Sunrising Records label?
With such a magical sounding hook the aim was to not get in the way of that and make sure the listener could enjoy the Herbie Hancock sound but still maintaining a steady dance floor filler with any luck .
What else have you got coming up/are you working on?
I’ve got some bangers lined up for early 2022 release which I can’t wait for you to hear including an old school classic.
What hopes and dreams do you have for 2022?
Hopes and dreams for 2022 is to release on defected, toolroom trax or nervous records and for David penn to play one of my. tracks. That would be mega! Merry Xmas guys. Nice chatting with you.
