“Jade McInally’s smooth and elegant vocals contrast the sharp ’80s chorus hooks, yet are wonderfully complemented by the fuzzy guitars of the bridge.” – The Line of Best Fit
“Smart, meandering, and beautifully evocative” – Golden Flake Paint
“Music that really demands your attention.” – Indie Midlands
“[Big Old House] highlights what jade imagine does best. It’s soft and subtle, with hazy guitar melodies meeting a subtle percussive pace and washed-out vocals from frontwoman and songwriter Jade McInally, whose vocal sways gently above the single’s quite upbeat pace.” –Pilerats
“‘Big Old House’ illustrates the Melbourne band’s knack for producing laidback, calming music with stirring emotional substance. There’s a psychedelic veneer, radiating pulse, and a dash of philosophical optimism.” – Beat Magazine
Today, jade imagine release their new single & video ‘The News’ which was premiered via Double J &Clash. It’s the third track lifted from their debut album Basic Love which is set for release on Friday 2 August via Milk! Records / Remote Control Records.
The most direct and succinct track on Basic Love, ‘The News’ ruminates about the troubles of a 24-hour news cycle. “I really can’t keep up with the news. No word of a lie. A story about accepting the fact that the wheels will always be turning, whether you like it or not. Sometimes it makes me angry. Sometimes I can’t stay on top of it all” says Jade McInally, jade imagine’s front-person and key songwriter.
Of the recording process Jade says, “One of the things I would say about this song is that; when we were making it we decided to strip back all of the chords and reduce the song down to its core ideas – drums, bass, guitars. We built the vocals around these parts to fit together like cogs in a machine.”
“This is how we made the film clip with Nick McKinlay too. It was an idea that started as something completely different to the final product but after months of trialling ideas, we ended up with something that mirrors how we made the song in the first place. Once we simplified the elements of the song along with the film clip, it gave everyone the freedom to let their personalities shape the end results. As corny it sounds, I hope you enjoy this as much as we did making it.”
2019 continues to be jade imagine’s biggest year yet. Following their signing to UK label Marathon Artists, jade imagine have been announced to support Stella Donnelly on her national Australian tour throughout September and October. Dates below.
