Jack & The Kids

What is your name and role within Jack & The Kids?

My name’s Jack and I’m on lead vocals, guitar, and keys!

Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?

We come from a central Victorian town called Bendigo. The indie rock scene here has struggled over our time involved in the scene, however there is a thriving Blues and Roots culture here which picks up the slack! There’s also a lot of punk/hardcore bands that are pretty cool too!

You new single ‘Televison Hero’ is out now, where and when did you record?

The new single was recorded mostly at our guitarists home studio in Bendigo.

What influenced the sound and songwriting for this track?

Around the time this track was written (mid 2017) I had been listening to The Jezabels 2010 release, Prisoner. So I think you can hear a lot of those sounds through the guitars and drums in the track.

How do you usually go about writing songs?

Usually I’ll whip up a demo and once I’m happy with it, I’ll send it to the boys. Some of them then have input and we add that to the song.

When and how did you first start playing music?

I first learnt the guitar when I was 10 years old, so that’s probably it. However I began writing my own music about 6 years ago.

How did Jack & The Kids form as a band?

It started off as a solo project, and over the years has evolved into the band we are today.

Your single launch is Friday the 20th of July in Melbourne, what can we expect from this show?

We’re really pumped for the show! We’ve got Club Yorke, our mates from Adelaide Donnarumma and Slowcoaching all on support duties.

How do you prepare for live shows?

Usually we will try and practice once a week in the lead up to our shows.

What do you like to do outside of music?

Don’t mind getting in the garden and keeping the lawns in good shape.

What do you have planned for the remainder of 2018 going into 2019?

Hopefully we can finally release an EP!

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Been listening to a lot of City Calm Downs new album lately. There’s also been a bit of John Farnham filtering through my Spotify playlists ;).

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Lady Sultan Turkish restaurant – Bendigo, Victoria.
