“An oddly addictive juxtaposition of childlike wonder and lo-fi introspection.”
The Line Of Best Fit

“Insecure Men are the kids causing havoc in your school’s unattended
music room, caged by rule-book hyperventilation,
gnawing themselves free.”

Loud and Quiet

Teenage Toy” is the latest track from Insecure Men, the band led by the fiercely talented songwriter and musician Saul Adamczewski (Fat White Family) and his schoolmate and stabilising influence, Ben Romans-Hopcraft. “Teenage Toy” is out now on Fat Possum Recordsvia Inertia Music.

LISTEN TO “TEENAGE TOY”

Outwardly a charming exercise in timeless pop, exotica and easy listening and ostensibly a near flawless execution of the ‘perfect pop song’, there however lurks a darker heart beneath the surface of “Teenage Toy”. As Saul says, it’s “pretty music with a dark underbelly to it”.

Teenage Toy is about adolescent sexuality and how frustrating that can be for most of us, especially people growing up in the suburbs or suburbs of the suburbs,” he adds. “Like those towns that only have one garage. We wanted it to sound like a demented cartoon world. I think we achieved that. Well done us.

“Teenage Toy” was recorded onto an ancient Tascam at Sean Lennon’s studio in upstate New York while Saul was working on The Moonlandingz album. It was subsequently produced by Lennon and mixed by Marta Salogni. They recently announced their signing to Fat Possum Records with the release of first single “Subaru Nights”.

Taking inspiration from the exotica of Arthur Lyman, the early electronic pop of Perrey and Kingsley, the supreme smoothness of The Carpenters, the songwriting chops of Harry Nilssonand the hypnagogic uncanniness conjured up by David Lynch, live Insecure Men are a sprawling constantly mutating entity.

With up to 11 musicians on stage, they have settled down into a stable (but large) line-up centred round Saul (vocals/guitar), Ben (bass/backing vocals), Marley Mackey (Dirty Harrys) on lap steel, Victor Jakeman (Claw Marks) on organ, Joe Isherwood (We Smoke Fags) on keyboard,  saxophonist Alex White and mysterious South London music teacher known only as Steely Danon vibraphone and steel drums.

Finally, after a handful of appearances in and around South London, the band head out on a U.K headline tour in March, including a show at the Scala in London. Additionally, later this month Saul will be appearing, billed as Insecure Men (solo),  alongside Black Lips on their U.K. tour.
