Following on from the release of his critically praised single ‘ICBM’, Melbourne-based Singapore-native Houg has today returned with the accompanying video clip – directed and edited by the artist himself.
The clip opens with the artist having some menial conversations, before taking a pill that warps his world. The DIY clip was shot throughout various suburbs of Melbourne and uses green screen and animation, to provide a surreal universe full of colour and contrast.
Houg talks about the meaning behind the clip:
“The video is about finding contentment without losing oneself, presenting the journey of the protagonist losing himself in his quest for the acceptance of his peers. In his urgency on this journey, he finds himself cheating on his ideals, then struggling with the ramifications of guilt and accusation. It’s also my first time delving into animation, even if for only a brief moment in this video”.
To celebrate the release, Houg will play an intimate single launch at the Evelyn Hotel in Melbourne, with future shows to be announced later this year. So far, the track has received glowing praise online from Savage Thrills, Something You Said, The Australian Music Scene and Hear65 (SGP). It has also seen support from the likes of triple j Unearthed, 3RRR, SYN FM and Radio Adelaide.
Houg moved to Melbourne from Singapore earlier this year and he comments on the change in lifestyle and culture – “It has been quite a journey of highs and lows finding my way into the Australian music scene. I’m here because it’s a culture I can relate to, and a community that appreciates my music. Sacrifices have been made along the way, which come with any impassioned pursuit, and they’ve had a significant impact on my emotional and physical wellbeing. These stories are very much a part of my music.”
His forthcoming debut EP ‘The Oscillation Scene’ is due early-2020 – produced and mastered by the artist himself.
