Grace Savage Influences Playlist!!

Lauryn Hill “Doo-Wop (That Thing)”
SUCH a timeless tune. “Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” was a CD my mate gave to me when I was 14 because he didn’t like it and thought I would…he was right…and it became one of the most influential albums in hip hop history. I’m seeing her perform the album live later this year and it’s gonna be a once in a life time kinda moment…
Missy Elliot “Pass that Dutch”
In a genre so dominated by men and focussed on objectifying women it was refreshing and empowering to have an artist like missy elliot, who didn’t need to shake her ass and wear a bikini or conform to that whole scene to be noticed. Her first album is sick too but the beat in this tune is just tooooo good.
Eva Cassidy “Fields of gold”
Although I was massively influenced by hip hop culture growing up, I still had a little space in my heart for some pure and simple acoustic goodness and I bought the Eva Cassidy “live at blues alley” album when I was 14. Her voice is perfect and her version of “fields of gold” was the first song to make me cry just from listening.
Amy Winehouse “fuck me pumps”
14 years old again and my friend introduced me to this artist called Amy Winehouse, the album was called FRANK and I had it on repeat for most of that year. Just incredible music and such an irreplaceable talent. I learnt this song on the guitar and it ended up being the first song I ever sang in front of anyone – to a producer who spotted me in a talent contest and invited me to their studio. From that moment on we started working together and I started to make the transition from Beatboxer to singer, songwriter. Thanks Amy.
P!nk “there you go”
Now I can’t mention my early influences without mentioning P!nk. I was beyond obsessed with this woman growing up. I died my hair pink, I got my tongue pierced, my email when I was 13 was pink_b1tch@hotmail.com. It was serious guys. I know every word to every song on every album. It’s just good pop music and she is an absolute bad ass.
