Dot Dash is excited to share a new taste from Gena Rose Bruce’s forthcoming album Can’t Make You Love Me. ‘I Don’t Think I’ll Ever Get Over You‘ is out today and comes with a beautiful lyric video created by Kate Adams and Alex Badham.
Gena explains – “We wanted to create a meditative, surrealist-inspired video for this song. The imagery hints at the concept of being buried, in this case by the thoughts or memories of someone you can’t let go of. It’s quite a personal song, so we felt it was important to include the lyrics – kind of like a scrawled letter where all vulnerability is revealed. Everything this song is about is captured in the opening lines; “I don’t think I’ll ever get over you. I don’t think I’ll ever really want too”. (But eventually, of course, I did.)”
Gena Rose Bruce will be playing shows at the Waywards at The Bank Hotel, Northcote Social Cluband The Junk Bar on the east coast in July/August following on from her sold-out Melbourne single launch at The Gasometer Upstairs.
There is a vibrant youthfulness and deep maturity that underpins Bruce’s songwriting, which allows Can’t Make You Love Me to swing effortlessly between earnest introspection and cool detachment with utter sincerity. Likewise intimate and ungraspable, Bruce’s vocals drive this album; a stirring force amidst the pulsing rhythms, echoes of Mazzy Star and Lynchian undertones.
