As a coming of age with a freshly developed sound and approach to his music, Fletcher Pilon of just 18-years of age has already made a serious mark in Australia throughout his early to mid—teenage years.
Pilon is now independently releasing his enchanting new folk-rock EP entitled ‘Thoughts’, releasing on April 5 (listen here | download here) and a number of tour shows throughout April and May.
Fletcher Pilon has already had a very interesting start to his career to say the least. In 2016, at the age of 14, Pilon won Australia’s Got Talent, signed to Sony and released the enrapturing single ‘Water’ in 2017. Most recently, Pilon spent some time writing in Nashville and Los Angeles in the USA in preparation for this new release.
Now, embodying his free-spirited way of life, this new release from this incredible young singer-songwriter is filled with thought-provokinglyricism that is matched with Pilon’s passionate vocals and deep oceanic electric guitar tones.
To add a whole new dimension to his intimate folk-rock style, Fletcher is now for the first time backed by heart-pounding drums performed by Indy Linzbichler and Grace Labrum on bass.
Opening this 5-track EP is two of Pilon’s powerful and already released singles ‘Paperback’ and ‘One More’ that feature the band. Maintaining a consistent theme throughout the EP, Fletcher explores humanity and how one goes on in life writing their own story drawing from their own influences and lessons learnt from their decisions.
Following these two opening tracks is the stunning, slow-burning track ‘All Out’. By layering spacious drums, the acoustic guitar and electric guitar, they build an uneasy tension that finally bursts with his emotive cries spilling heart-ache and sorrow.
‘Letters’ eases up the pace as it’s a peaceful ode that addresses the need to show compassion and unconditional love to others. Fletcher pairs his compelling lyrics that are embellished by his vocals alongside the clean, finger-picked electric guitar with a big chambered reverb.
Closing out the EP out is the folky, upbeat and light-hearted acoustic number titled ‘Thought Song’. Lyrically this track most clearly expresses Pilon’s beliefs, values and mature understanding of the world. Pilon comments on the corruption of innocence forced upon youth, he raises questions about mining and the way we view politics and he voices opinions on the Australian education system and how creativity is weaved out of us.
Pilon will be touring Melbourne, Sydney and the Central Coast with this captivating new EP throughout April and May, with more shows to be announced for June and July. Find more information about his upcoming tour shows below.
