What is your name and role within Fizzy Blood?
Hi I’m Joe Blackburn, I sing and play the drums.
How did you start?
We were all good mates to begin with before we formed Fizzy Blood. We did not know Ciaran however and we were in search of a Bassist. We saw this guy one day busking, playing slap bass in the street. At first we thought we thought he was a homeless guy! Haha. We were so blown away we asked him if he was in a band or anything like that and he said he was looking to form one. We didn’t even have to think about it. We formed Fizzy Blood there and then. We’re a pretty spontaneous group of people.
Where are you based?
We were originally based in Leeds for a couple of years but due to Ciaran’s work commitments we’re all currently living in a bedroom in Pudsey.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
We’ll check out what’s currently trending in the rock/pop charts on spotify and (for want of a better word) steal the bits we like and re-work them into original works. The greatest scandal of the 21st Century…. Ssshhhhhhhh.
What are you working on right now?
We don’t wanna give away too much, but we’re currently teaching a group of people how to play our entire back catalogue so we can play twice as many gigs. More productivity, more profit.
What is your gear setup?
A big mirror and a couple of debit cards.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
See question above. Yes.
How would you describe your music genre?
Do you know any music theory?
We know Major, Minor and Lime-scale.
What are your plans for the future?
We’re going into the studio in a couple of weeks to record a conceptual double-album for release in August. From there, God only knows.
How did you get into music?
When we saw Ciaran playing bass for the first, we all looked at each other, and we just knew that this is what we wanted to do.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
The Open Road (Circa 2014)
When are you playing next?
London for Camden Rocks. When our other band is ready though we’ll be hitting up a highly requested show in Istanbul.
Please feel free to include any extra info.
Our first EP came out in 2015 to mixed reviews. None of us are Vegan, but we like the idea of it.
