One of Scotland’s most progressive outfits, Modern Studies join the Fire Records roster, slotting in seamlessly somewhere between Jane Weaver, Death And Vanilla, Noveller and Josephine Foster. Following the release of their critically acclaimed debut ‘Swell To Great’ (‘Gorgeous, warm and melancholic’ The Herald, **** MOJO), the quartet are currently in the studio recording their follow-up.
The first port of call for the band is this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe where they will showcase their unique brand of lyrical landscape pop over three nights (August 20-22) at ‘SOUNDING’ (www.sounding.org.uk), performing songs from the new album. The stage will be shared with Lomond Campbell (Heavenly Recordings), and both acts will be accompanied by the intricate arrangements of ten-piece string section The Pumpkinseeds. The spellbinding evening will feature projections within the beautiful setting of Stockbridge Church.
To celebrate the event there will be a limited edition double A-side 7” single release on Triassic Tusk, featuring both performers covering each other’s music. Modern Studies cover Lomond Campbell’s ‘Every Florist In Every Town’ as a compelling and timeless gentle folk rock ballad, and Campbell reciprocates with ‘Father Is A Craftsman’.
