It has been a rollercoaster of highlights for teenage troubadour Fergus James since the release of his electrifying second single ‘What Are We Waiting For’, the follow up to his debut ‘Golden Age’, which has so far accumulated over 5 million streams.
Among an ever-growing fan base, the summer period saw ‘What Are We Waiting For’ reach the #1 most played at triple j. Only last week Fergus James was named the triple j Unearthed Feature Artist and was also included in the ‘Unearthed Forecast: Ones to watch in 2019’ feature. Streaming platforms have also shown their support in a big way with Apple Music naming him New Artist of the Week this week and a number of playlist additions across Spotify and Apple alike.
In celebration, and as the pull to the live stage could no longer be ignored, Fergus James has announced a run of shows on his debut headline tour this March beginning with a hometown show at The Stro in Armidale on 21 March, taking in Melbourne’s Workers Club on Friday 22 March and Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on 28 March. Tickets are on salenow.
The official video clip for ‘What Are We Waiting For’ premiered over the the weekend viaChannel [V] and has acquired the [V] UNCO[V]ERED Artist profile this week. Shot in Melbourne where the song was written with Pip Norman (Troye Sivan, CXLOE) and Mike Waters, the video perfectly captures the infectious driving beat of this uplifting anthem that acknowledges the fears and doubts we all must overcome to move forward on this journey called life.
“After unloading all my fears and doubts upon Mike and Pip, their combined experiences in life and music provided me with a sense of hope, not that of clarity, but that of “F*** it, music, like life, will go on. All you can hope for is to enjoy the piece of art that you have put yourself into in the moment, regardless of popularity, money and ‘the crowd’ you wish to fit into,” Fergus explains.
‘What Are We Waiting For’ follows the release of Fergus’ debut single ‘Golden Age’, which saw the 19 year-olds triple j unearthed profile become the second most viewed profile on the platform in the first half of 2018, only behind G-Flip (see here). Golden Age also received overwhelming support from both Spotify and Apple Music, amassing over 5 million streams.
In 2018 Fergus was handpicked by Ed Sheeran to open the Australian leg of his record-breaking Divide tour, the biggest ever stadium tour in Australian history (selling over one million tickets).
A star on the rise, Fergus James is certainly one to watch.
