Powerhouse electronic duo Feels return with effervescent new single ‘Circles (feat. Joan & The Giants)’,out today via their own label WOMPP (Women of Music Production Perth). Premiering viaPilerats this week, the track arrives alongside the announcement of their debut album,Water Level, set for release this Spring
The buoyant, bubbling latest cut of Feels’ eagerly awaited debut album, ‘Circles‘ sees the duo employ the seraphic vocals of Grace Newton-Wordsworth of Joan & The Giants. In her own words, “Circles is about two people trapped in a prison that they’ve built themselves. This ‘prison’ is the representation of a broken down relationship where all light has turned to shadow, and they stay trapped because they’re hiding in patterns and habits they’ve formed”, she says.
Feels’ Elise Reitze-Swensen says of the track, “’Circles’ started out as a fun dance beat and some playful sound design. As soon as I started writing this, I knew that Grace from Joan & The Giants would be a perfect feature!”.Rosie Taylor adds, “We had so much fun recording this in the studio with Grace. We are exploring a darker side to Feels at the moment and Grace’s haunting vocal tone was a perfect fit for the track.”
Amongst sharing singles ‘Piha’ and ‘Bad4me’, Feels hit the ground running this year after being personally invited by Red Bull to undertake a one-week studio residency at Red Bull HQ, New Zealand in January 2019. Officially making their debut in the United States, the duo was then the only instrumental electronic act from Australia invited to showcase at SXSW 2019 in Austin, Texas. After cleaning out the2018 West Australian Music (WAM) Awards (winning a massive three awards in total), it is no surprise that the duo has just been nominated for the 2018-19 Song of The Year Award for their 2018 single‘They Need Us feat. Stella Donnelly’. Their previously released singles have seen the duo garner support and airplay from triple j, BBC Radio 1 and Australian community radio.
Armed with one four-octave electronic marimba/xylophone, 11 different drum pads, up to six sticks hitting the triggers at any time – Feels, the boundary-pushing, award-winning artists, producers, label founders and gender equality ground breakers present a formidable live show, which the duo bring to each major Australian city to celebrate the release of their Water Level LP later this year, with dates to be announced soon.
