Sydney-based punk group FANGZ have just revealed a feverish accompanying video for latest single ‘Self Medicate’ – shot, written, and directed by Reece Grogan and Joel McDonald of Yeah Rad Creative.
Shot between locations at Sydney Props and Good Loco in Marrickville, the video clip features the band members performing the song against white drop and green screen backgrounds, with hyperactive visuals complimenting the chaotic nature of the single. Colourful graphics and frantic cuts make for an eye-catching music video that abandons control in full favour of musical aesthetic.
Reece and Joel from Yeah Rad Creative talk about the making of ‘Self Medicate’:
“This clip was a bit of a fun collaboration with the Heavy Metal Factory, who’ve done all of FANGZ artwork since they started. We all met up over some ice cold LLB’s one day to chat about the clip. The only real brief we had was “Hey, we can use this space (Good Loco) for free – what can we do?” We’d always done these story driven clips with FANGZ, but this time we wanted to see what we could do with a pure performance clip and just let go of any sort of narrative structure. Originally it was just going to be the green screen stuff, but when we saw that adidas had just dropped some bright green tracksuits, and being the official uniform of FANGZ, we told the band to buy them to see if we could use them as the green screen. In all honestly, I wasn’t sure if it was going to work, but it came out pretty sick, I reckon!”
Since its release, ‘Self Medicate’ has been strongly supported by Spotify, Amazon Music, triple j, triple j Unearthed, The Faction, 4ZZZ, SYN FM, 2SER, and Edge Radio. The track has also been widely embraced online by The Guardian, Music Feeds, Maniacs, Heavy Mag, and Hysteria.
To celebrate the release of the new track, FANGZ have announced a six-date tour across NSW, ACT and QLD, including a performance at Inverted Festival, alongside Skegss, Trophy Eyes, WAAX and Stand Atlantic.
Coming along with them for the ride are fellow Sydneysiders Down For Tomorrow; a band who thrived throughout 2020, picking up strong support from Spotify, Apple Music, triple j and Rock Sound (UK), amongst many other globally renown tastemakers.
In the live arena, FANGZ have sold out multiple headline shows and supported the likes of Comeback Kid (CAN), Cancer Bats (CAN), Gyroscope, Totally Unicorn and Bare Bones.
The band have also just announced that they’ve signed a management deal with boutique artist services agency ‘Good Intent’.
