What is your name and role within Essex Muro?
Troy, and I do vocals
How did you start?
We started the band at my old apartment house “roach garden” I guess I still live there, I just moved downstairs. Me and our bass player Jeff started writing for it a year and a half ago.
Where are you based?
In raleigh/Greensboro North Carolina
Please give an example of your music writing process?
Sometimes I’ll just write I riff that I’ve been messing with for a few weeks or a few months, show it to everybody and then we just work around that. At practice we’ll jam and come up with stuff as well, so that’s another way we get jams goin.
What are you working on right now?
We’re working on releasing our first record right now and booking a bunch of gigs….can’t give too much info away.
What is your gear setup?
I dunno. I just sing.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
I work at a garden shop full time, so I do that a lot. I guess it affects the band whether I show up to practice or not from being exhausted haha.
How would you describe your music genre?
Punk, hardcore, psych
Do you know any music theory?
Basic stuff. I just play until I find shit I like
What are your plans for the future?
We got a ton of stuff coming up soon. Hopscotch music festival in raleigh NC, a bunch of gigs and some announcements at the beginning of July. Keep ya eyes peeled!
How did you get into music?
My middle brother. He would introduce me to a bunch of stuff and we would just roam around record stores in (queens NYC) and buy random records. Wu tang forever was my first cassette I bought.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Reba.
