“Breaks, pop, disco, drum & bass, opera and surf are all thrown in to create a giddying bombardment that doesn’t let up once throughout… a good-time party soundtrack ” – IDJ
“Their boundless energy and infectious enthusiasm shines throughout with an underlying organic live feel that’s perfect for that party atmosphere.” – Mixmag
The Young Punx releases their new single ‘Rhythm is Wild’ via MofoHifi Records and promises to release a track per month thereafter for the year 2019. Conceptualized, Produced and composed by Grammy Nominated UK multi-instrumentalist, singer and record producer Hal Ritson. Ritson has credits on over 1000 electronic music songs, including for artists like Katy Perry, Cassius, The Prodigy, Kanye West, Nas, Black Eyed Peas, Jessie J, Avicii, David Guetta, Chemical Brothers and so many more. In 2009, Hal was the Musical Director for Dizzee Rascal’s BBC Electric Proms performance and went on to lead and play in Dizzee’s live band. As of now, Hal has taken to head up electronic-punk act, The Young Punx. As a duo, The Young Punx have supported Tiësto at Privilege Ibiza as well as performing as a live band with guitarist Guthrie Govan, performing at major international festivals such as Glastonbury Festival, Summer Sonic Festival and a 24000 strong crowd at Nano Mugan in Japan. In addition, the group also present shows like Japanese So You Think You Can Dance and the UK Dance Music TV station Flaunt under the brand, along with their very own podcast The Young Punx FM.
The Young Punx came to life on 2003, out of the underground mashup of the bootleg and breakbeat scene with a mind to celebrate and subvert dance music, breaking the norms of traditional house, disco, jungle, hip hop and any other genre they so choose. Hal brings genres together where one would normally not venture. Finding the balance between electronic and organic music and all recorded to vintage/retro equipment for the authenticity Hal feels is of the utmost importance. The goal is to make little to no sense in terms of concept and yet bring an end result that one couldn’t imagine done any differently.
Hal has expressed that his influences have no boundaries or ties to genre, specific artists or even time. But rather than inspiration for the music is covered by the length and breadth of music history. According to the group, they are with omnidirectional high low electronica. As for visual inspiration, The Young Punx have turned to esteemed Dutch Multimedia artist Han Hoogerbrugge for the fully CGI video to accompany the new single.
‘Rhythm is Wild’ is the brand new single by The Young Punx and serves as a sort of teaser for their upcoming fourth studio album. And in full Hal style, the track offers a mash-up of inconceivable genres. Right out the gate with an original 1930s big band swing harmony comparable to The Andrew Sisters and Glen Miller over a cheeky gipsy jazz guitar into a vicious bass line that takes you from your racy paced swing step right into a dirty dancefloor stomp.
Talking about their ‘Rhythm is Wild’ single, Hal explained, “‘Rhythm Is Wild’ is a game of two halves… All recorded on our own 1940s recording equipment, with kick-ass electro house guaranteed to shake your speakers and accompanied by a mind-bending CGI video by esteemed Dutch artist, Han Hoogerbrugge, ‘Rhythm Is Wild’ is an in-your-face teaser for the 4th studio album, coming later this year.”
