“You cannot help but be washed off your feet with the feel-good vibes that circle and transcend through the beats Drop Legs put out on a consistent basis.” – Savage Thrills
“Drop Legs are (or are damn sure about to be) everyone’s favourite coastal chill/hip hop/reggae sensation. They’re smooth, clever and funky, and you need them in your playlist.” – Erica Mallett, Triple J
What better way to ease into Summer than with DropLegs new breezy hip-hop single ‘WindowsDown’, the laidback first taste of their second EP East Coast Playground, premiered yesterday via Savage Thrills. Paired with the announcement of their huge ten-date east coast and New Zealand tour, Byron Bay’s favourite party starters will be bringing the heat all through December and January.
Known for their infectious blend of roots and hip-hop, ‘Windows Down’ sees the group exploring hip-hop and R&B tinted sounds, blending deep bass grooves with offbeat drum flushes and flickers of the signature Drop Legs brass sway. A combination of two different soundscapes, the chorus injects fast funk inspired flutters and melodies, while the verses calms things down and make way for smooth raps from frontman Ham.
“The track is an ambitious step towards an Anderson .Paak / The Internet style of Hip Hop; phat and heavy, but great to move to,” vocalist Ham Blacket explains.
Still pinching themselves from the nationwide tour alongside Byron superstar Tones And I, 2019 has been a huge year for the band. The release of singles ‘WitnessTheEucalyptus’ and ‘PacificHighwayTrippin’ both scored airplay on both triple j and triple j Unearthed, alongside praise on Savage Thrills and the AU review. Now set to trek across the east coast and New Zealand in their biggest and best tour yet, Drop Legs promise to bring their festival rocking stage show to these intimate venues.
The last few years have seen them play festivals across Europe, New Zealand and Australia including Boom Town Fair (UK), Party In the Paddock, Falls Festival, Island Vibes, Sound Splash (NZ) and Madness Festival (NL), and gone on to support the likes of SOJA and TheBeautifulGirls overseas, alongside OceanAlley, TheBennies and the aforementioned TonesAndI in Australia.
With lots more to come from these five larrikins, wind the ‘Windows Down’ and get ready for a sunny season full of Drop Legs!
