“The guitar hook at the chorus is so catchy and the message of [Witness The Eucalyptus] is a great little wake up call and reminder to enjoy the beautiful world we live in!” – Claire Mooney, Triple J
“Everyone’s favourite Byron Bay jammers”
– Savage Thrills
“Drop Legs are (or are damn sure about to be) everyone’s favourite coastal chill/hip hop/reggae sensation. They’re smooth, clever and funky, and you need them in your playlist.” – Erica Mallett, Triple J
Grab your sunscreen and get Slip-Slop-Slapping, five-piece Drop Legs are back with an absolute scorcher of a single, premiered on triple j Unearthed‘s TOPS, just in time for the weekend! Now added as the main support for fellow Byron Bay native Tones and I‘s near sold out tour, these jammers will be bringing the heat all down the east coast throughout May and June.
Their first single since the release of their debut album KingBrownSunDown in October last year, ‘Witness The Eucalyptus’ is an explosive brass filled, dub, surf-rock, hip-hop fusion of gnarly proportion. Deep, skating bass tones and laidback boom bap percussion lay the foundation, accented by effortlessly smooth melodies and a string of raucous rap bravado; a testament that Drop Legs’ style is captivating to say the least.
Encouraging others to disconnect from technology, the song is about the material obsession with devices which blind us to the beauty that surrounds. The concept came to lead vocalist HamBlacket after teaching and performing alongside the Aboriginal Ngarluma and Yinjibarnrdi people in the rural Western Australia, “I was amazed by the local culture and the connection with land and spiritual world,” he explained.
2018’s KingBrown SunDown saw the quintet reach new heights, scoring multiple spins on triple j, and support from the likes of Pilerats, BeatMagazine and SavageThrills. The last 12 months alone has seen them play festivals across Europe, New Zealand and Australia including Boom Town Fair (UK), Party In the Paddock, FallsFestival, IslandVibes, SoundSplash (NZ) and MadnessFestival (NL), and gone on to support the likes of SOJA and TheBeautifulGirls overseas, alongside OceanAlley and TheBennies in Australia.
With this the first of many singles taking Drop Legs into 2019, now is your chance to drop in on these compelling rockers as they hit Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
