Queensland’s DOOLIE has had a stallar year of releases and performing live up and down the east coast. Early on in the year the 21-year-old kicked off a string of releases which have had a huge amount of streams and love from Triple J with 2:20 which racked up over 100k streams, she then followed up with the huge hit Attention which has doubled the streams of 2:20. Most recently she released a killer track in No Game co written and produced with Sydney’s XMPLA. DOOLIE has also recently featured on the recent instant hit Stay High from LO’99.
Before she plays a run of shows coming up in Melbourne and on home soil on the Gold Coast, we thought we’d catch up with DOOLS to see who she’s listening to at the moment.
Chase Zera:
This blonde haired beauty had me at her first song “Clovers”. The first time I heard it, I was like “wow” and it was all I listened to for days!! Still haven’t seen her live with my own eyeballs, but from what I’ve gathered on the internet, she rocks the stage like Justin Timberlake.
Yorke:
Well to start off we are born 3 days apart, so we’re pretty much twins. But holy moly does this lady have the voice of an angel, and not only that, she can write like an angel, so basically Yorke is an angel. Man… “Thought I Could” makes me feel like I’m Pocahontas, in that scene where she’s on the edge of that huge waterfall, and the leaves and the wind are dancing around her, and then she gracefully jumps into the water.
Dvna:
Well if it isn’t the babe of snack town herself, not only does she look like a snack, but she sounds like a snack, with them tasty af beats, I mean… girl, I am calling you “the song bird of your generation”. She crushed big sound and made Brisbane and the whole of me, fall in love with Dvna. She did it all, from the hyping, to the grooving, to the bantering, and the sweet sweet singing, she had only just released “Sushi In Tokyo” and she had the crowd singing with her *heart eyes emoji x4*. She also doesn’t judge me for eating Parmesan straight out of the bag.
Bajillionaire:
So I must admit, no song has ever made me cry and bang my head as much as “Untouched” by the Veronicas… Then I heard “Yes & No”, and I was just thrown back to the feelings of road trips, where you would be sitting in the back seat listening to dramatic songs on your iPod classic, pretending to be the main character in some sad romantic movie. Every musical element in this song hit me right in the tear duct, from the production, the lyrics, and both of the lead vocals, I feel like if the click were still in this track it would make me cry too.
XMPLA:
First of all, such an awesome dude, and so multi talented, he can write, rap, sing, produce, PLAY THE FWEAKIN DWUMS, and that’s all I know of so far. Writing “No Game” was so much fun and performing it together has been even more fun. A track that is definitely a stand out to me has to be “Big Kids”, it’s just so fun to listen to.
