Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?
I currently live between France and Mauritius, and in both of those countries, the music scene is moving! It’s really interesting to see that when there is a mix in genres, cultures and it creates something refreshing and new!
Please tell us about your new track « SWEAT », where and when did you record?
I’ve been working on this track for a long time. An old friend sent me a demo with Laurell’s magnificent voice. I immediately went to the studio with Willy William and reworked the track so it could turn out like as it sounded in my head.
What influenced the sound and songwriting for Sweat?
As I live between Mauritius and France, there is a mix of culture in both these places, especially in Mauritius thanks to being close to Africa and the Indian community on the island. And that’s what I wanted to transcribe with this track.
How would you define your sound and musical style?
That’s a hard question because I have so many influences and so much desire to experiment with new things! What I’m always aiming for in my work is to make happy tracks, that can give people a boost at the gym, during a night with friends, from a club to a festival!
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Right now I’m listening to a lot of African music.
What or who influences your songwriting producing?
To be honest, I don’t have precise names to drop. I respect the work of a lot of artists that influence me today. I feel inspired by whatever I’m listening. This could be a bass line from a Funk track or a percussion from a traditional African track…
How do you usually go about writing /producing music?
There is no usual way. It depends on the feeling of the moment. I record a lot of ideas on my vocal notes, and I try to transform these ideas in my studio.
What do you like to do away from music?
I try to enjoy time with my family and friends as much as I can. Every moment is important if you can live it fully.
How did you first start playing music?
The first time was at a friends place as a kid, he had bought vinyl decks and started mixing. Once I saw what could be done and the energy it could give to people, I realised that it was what I wanted to do. I learnt the basics with him, at his house (thanks to his parents for their patience, by the way, haha) and then I worked and put money aside to buy my own deck and that’s when I thank my parents and our neighbours for their patience!
What do you have planned for the remainder of 2018 going into 2019?
Well, « Sweat » has just been released, so we will keep our focus on the track for a while. Remixes are in the making, with some nice surprises. We’re also working on a tour for 2019 with the « We Love Pop » project in Mauritius!
Favorite food and place to hangout?
My mom’s meals!
And the best place to hang out would definitely be by the water in Mauritius with all my friends
