Distorted Drill & Phasz

by the partae
Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?  We live in Milan, Italy. Fortunately this city is growing day by day and event and music scene are one of the main character of it. Huge venue, small reality, clubs, underground, rap, techno, live, dj set, everything lives here.  How did you first start playing music together?  We just wanted to mix our own style to make some club banger and have fun making it and playing outside as well. We already did some tracks together but this project is like the real begin.  Please tell us about the relationship between the two of you, Phasz being  the rapper and the music coming from Distorted Drill:  We produced, edited, developed and mixed all the tracks together, and that was the easiest part. We just started producing focused only with instrumentals and after first vocals on Acid Jungle we decided to use Phasz vox for all the project, with an entire verse for Booyaka Booyaka, first single.  How did you two first meet?  We met in Milan, we were studying Audio Engineering together, same classroom.  How did you both first starting being involved in music?  P: Listening good music all my life thanks to my sisters, later I started with a rap group in Alghero, I discovered the fantastic world of beatmaking and I decided to study Audio Engineering and take it more serious. Party and DJ set in summer of course. DD: First experience where I felt in love with Electronic was with hardcore music, going to rave party and Dutch events, than I extended my interest in techno and electro. I started studying music production and then Audio Engineering to refine my productions.  What's been happening recently?  We make beats under the name Bamboo, we have already some ready project and producing constantly after summer break. We will love to started with live performance with this project so keep going and working everyday.  What influences your sound and songwriting?  Life, desires, thought, feelings, everything is human, inspirations is everywhere that’s why we can’t stay only in one music genre.  How do you go about writing music?  It’s like gym, more you train it better grown, but right lyrics always come in a second.  What programs/instruments do you use?  Our DAW is Ableton, for sure, than we love to use lot of gear, pretty cool stuff like eurorack modular, analog synths, keys, pedal, and still looking to take more.  What influences your lyrcis and melody?  We use to listen all genres, Phasz lot of female voices, R&B and classic Hip Hop, something more chill, Distorted Drill all genres too, more acid techno, dark beat, gabber music, everything that create that good sensations of listening good music, and so trying to make it too. Italian Rap of course.  How would you describe your music?  We don’t mind to make something like “Electronic Rap” or “Acid Hip-Hop”, we love to take the element of our favorite music and mixed together to create tracks that works on the dancefloor.  Who are you listening to at the moment?  DD: Loving Assembler Code & Jensen Interceptor Ep on Mechatronica P: Top Boy Soundtrack now. For Bamboo project we are oriented to collaborate with Asian Grime scene.  What do you like to do away from music?  P: Make my own T-shirt, discover new places, art, ladies, weed, I’m a normal guy. DD: Actually my new favorite hobby is eurorack modular so not so far from music but really interested into this world now.  What's planned for the remainder of 2019 going into 2020?  Pushing our music and let grow our audience, work work work, because unexpected moments are the coolest, and do what we love is the best way to reach.  Favourite food and place to hangout?  P: Hard to say between pizza and sushi, so burrito. Hangouts priority is with whom, not where DD: Pizza! Where there is people and music I’m good.
